the catch is that they broke UK law, so how can you send someone to another country to serve prsion time for a crime committed in UK?
Would you agree to any UK citizen being sent back here to serve prison time for crimes not committed here?
What happens if it is UK citizen arrested for sex outside wedlock in a muslim country where that is not a crrime here? Or for being gay, or public nudity?

That just confirms the law. What you seem to object to is that he is serving a custodial sentence in the UK. There are bilateral treaties with some countries that allow someone to serve their sentences in their own country (Pakistan is one, I think).
However if there is no treaty you either let them go or make them serve their sentence here. And I don’t think you are really suggesting that we let a rapist off because its a hassle locking them up.

@RedWhippet is spot on. The current process is that a foreign national changed with a crime serves the custodial sentence and is then deported.
You need to have an agreement with the country you wish you deport people to. Unsurprisingly it’s difficult to convince a nation to take a violent criminal back.
So the obvious solution is vetting before entry. Shame that was totally ignored by a previous government that absolutely destroyed the civil service department delivering this. And there are those that are shouting for a full vetting service and calling for more civil service cuts at the same time.

Once they are here, we have to deal with it. That’s true of every country.
Because there is literally nothing else we can do about it. We have people arriving, largely as a byproduct of Brexit. If the claim asylum we process the claim. The asylum system was deliberately run down by the Tories. Labour need time to fix it.
