UK Politics Thread (Part 5)

That’s fair enough. I have a few on my list. More dislikes than likes to be honest

Wouldn’t surprise me. There was a shady feeling about Starmers backers

Saw the number of posts and thought we’d signed Barcola!

I know we’re looking for right wingers, but this is ridiculous :joy:

There’s a surfeit of them in this thread apparently. I see a few hundred new posts in here, and I thought something major had happened, and it turns out it’s just a bunch of boomers winding up @Mascot.

Can you just let me know which one of you is the Alpha, so I can just take that one down and disregard the rest? Don’t worry about @Road-Runner. I know it isn’t him.

You couldn’t take me down if you tried.:rofl:

I have had to cut a large chunk of my response out because unfortunately, people don’t want to hear the truth and admittedly I went off on a bit of a tangent.

I agree that there are behaviours that you can disagree with. Judgements made of people and assumptions about their character. Thats life but acting on it like you do is not a good trait.

If you agree that it is not out of the ordinary for people to form a judgement? Why do you overly obsess about people forming a judgement that is different to yours? What makes your judgement right? You could donate all your money to Labour and I woulld be like, fair enough, that’s what he wanted! but you, you have so much resentment, so much hatred and judgement.

You suggest that people should reflect on their views through discussion, understanding of other people’s circumstances and yet this is something you do not allow.
You bemoan, judge, mock, over criticise anyone who has a different view to your own. Just like the old women down the village hall, who had experienced heightened anxiety about People on bikes, you dismissed their concerns, suggesting they were being influenced by Social Media.
It’s an assumption, it’s lazy but ultimately it’s arrogant.

Until, you learn to accept that people are not horrible, stupid, selfish people for offering a different perspective, then you will never progress socially. Which is a shame as you are obviously not stupid.

Or tickets to Arsenal/Taylor Swift. Or having his son being provided with an £18m property for a bit of peace and quiet so that he can study.

It makes me chuckle at how people try to justify their Party for not being as corrupt as the other Party because their MP’s situation was different or the value was lower. Maybe, it would be easier if we just accepted the truth in that most humans are guilty of playing the system and our only real outrage is that they we would all love tickets to a Taylor Swift gig.

I like it, this is definitely a sign of progress. Keep it up, we know you can do it :+1:t2:

I think you are getting too tied up in the semantics of language here, and I think if your being honest this is more in the spirit of trying to attack me personally (which would fit in the unpleasant behaviour in this thread last night).

I don’t think I do obsess about people having a different opinion to me, and what I think you are experiencing here is what I’m writing in a thread about politics and assuming that’s what I’m like generally. That makes as much sense as assuming that that lad who goes on about Tyler Morton in the transfer thread is also banging on about him at work and family gatherings.

If somebody started banging on about immigration in real life, I’d probably have a go at trying to counter their arguments but it wouldn’t last long before I just said let’s leave it.

But in here, aren’t we supposed to be talking politics?

I’ve just been back through my argument with Jaffod that sparked this, and at no point do I personally insult him, name call, act aggressively towards him like he does me. I’m picking apart his opinion and his argument, and if he finds that upsetting, frankly, he shouldn’t be here. I didn’t misinterpret him, like he insists I did. I’m probably in retrospect a bit too keen to bring the discussion back to the stuff he’d (grudgingly) admitted weren’t true, but it isn’t like it wasn’t relevant, and it’s not like people allow me to move on from historic faux pas. Bonus seems to have a fucking grudge against me for something I can’t even remember, and I still still get shit for a sloppy use of wording about Boomers from fucking years ago (that was itself a total distortion of my point)

Sure I’m being a bit judgemental, as it’s quite hard to disagree and argue with people with being a bit judgemental. If you disagree with someone’s position on how we should treat other people, then it is a de facto attack on their value. That is inescapable. This isn’t a conversation about football - it’s a discussion that touches on a deepest values as humans. There is a reason why people often refuse to talk about politics in social gatherings. I’m certainly not displaying any resentment or hatred here, except towards donkeys (the cunts).

I do find it ironic that people who share my politics are branded snowflakes by the kind of people who have a fucking meltdown if you point out the flaws in their opinion. I find it ironic that I’m called a bully by lads who took part in that sustained, nasty pile on last night (which, if I’d seen as uninvolved mod would resulted in bans for the fucking lot of them). I find it ironic that I’m accused of being resentful by lads who seem to hold grudges against me for stuff going back years

Again you seem to framing your opinion about me as if because I express a bit of disapproval about people’s politics in this thread, I’m going up to them and calling them cunts to their faces. I’m reflecting on people’s politics. In the politics thread. There isn’t anyone I don’t get on with where I live, because I’m actually quite good at not being a cunt. And this includes plenty of people of people who don’t share my politics.

(You’ve also mischaracterised the example you are using, which isn’t helpful, but I can’t be arsed to correct at this. I’ll assume your just mistaken rather shaping it to make me look intolerant.)

We disagree on quite a few things in all honesty mascot, but i know you only want the best for people in society, and in many ways thats all we all want, its just we differ on what society should be.

The way to achieving that though is something beyond our remit except for every 4 years …when the politicians tell us they do it etc…and then proceed to lie to us and do something else..

Its a shame , because if society worked like this forum over the years , we could have sorted a lot of the stuff :grimacing:

We are getting there. Welcome to my world.

Likewise, you and others are framing my opinion. It’s not nice is it?
I get on with pretty much everyone, from all walks of life and yet I am portrayed on this thread as a RW, Farage loving Cunt.
I suppose, like you, I will just assume everyone is mistaken rather than them shaping it up to make me look intolerant or furthermore engaging in playground mentality.

I really don’t want to come across as condescending, but you may find that people like myself, who express a bit of disapproval about other peoples politics don’t receive the same grace as yourself.
In the end, there will always be people who display extreme views. But again to reiterate my point, until you try and step out of your stubborn position and engage, try and understand other people’s views then I am afraid you will not require any assistance from me in portraying a person of intolerance.

I say the above in good faith.

You had me until your last paragraph .

What you say is correct though, I think the amount of posts and also tension in this thread shows that a lot of people care and want what’s best for the people.
The problem I have and this is an honest observation, rather than trying to antagonise people is that there are too many people sharpening their knives in preparation to cut their nose off to spite their face. Being Party aligned in a strange period of time, is not the answer. If people want to be party aligned then cut the shit out and hold your Party to account. I think we are all tired of numerous Governments failing to deliver.

Read something today about Yvette Cooper receiving donations from an individual or a company involved in the supply of NHS care staff.
Slimy cunt Streeting was also mentioned as having his nose in the same trough.
Not sure of the accuracy of the source which is why i haven’t posted the link, but wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised if there’s a huge element of truth in it.
Can’t be arsed searching either, I’ll let others search in an effort to debunk it

:joy:

To keep the good faith going, I think this is really important.

Isn’t this basically what I’m on about when I say that arguing politics always feels like an attack on values?

I appreciate the olive branch you are extending, but I don’t think I have an issue with other peoples views. This latest flare up has happened because I challenged someone’s facts.

At what point does a view or opinion become something that can be challenged. An opinion is good and well, but when people are supporting that opinion with things that are demonstrably untrue, is that to be respected? Or can I say that’s wrong?

All parties are guilty of it as alluded to in your post.
I wouldn’t waste your energy on it. :+1:t2:

Well you have literally just torched the Olive Branch. Maybe reflect on that.
Continue to hold onto your negative approach to life, it will only be a matter of time until you replace the old biddies at the table moaning about fuck all :+1:t2:
