Seemingly this is to cut a loophole whereby second-home owners are classifying their second homes as holiday let businesses to avoid the higher council tax on second homes.
I can see the problem here is that genuine let businesses could be caught by an additional cost (probably about £10 per night on average). On the plus side, it will increase income of rural councils and restrict the number of lets which is likely to improve the profitability of legitimate letting firms.
There is also the possibility that it makes housing more affordable for the people who actually live there.

The committee looking into this is the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee, so this is exactly the sort of thing that’s within their scope. Cultural Industry exports such as music are quite important to the UK and have been for a long time, and Eurovision is a fairly big spectacle that gives the country to showcase it’s talent.
Is that really what Eurovision does though? I was not old enough for the Abba or Bucks Fizz days so its always been naff in my life, but it seems to have increasingly embraced that as being the point over the past 20 years or so

Potentially it does, yes. It’s a famous event watched by lots of people. It won’t be the top names but I can’t see why we couldn’t find better than what we have been sending.
There is obviously a lot of politics around the voting but I think it is fair to say that most year’s I’ve watched it, the UK entries have often not been very good. Granted, most entries from other countries aren’t either and there is a tendency at least more recently for acts to pander to certain messaging but quality will stand out if we make an effort for it to.
It’s moot now, best case scenario is 2nd place

At least you are not Denmark. Not only do they have a very peculiar history of sending stuff only a drunk Dane can like, they literally have no popular music (i include both rock and pop)outside the one and only Kim Larsen. It’s extremely strange. Sweden has a lot, massively so for its size, rock bands and pop of high international quality, as have Norway and Iceland (latter relative for size). Denmark har Larsen and the synth guy from Aqua basically.

Honestly. I get the left. Wanting equality etc. looking after “working people”. But Labour has had its time. It’s living in the past. Doing the same things over again. It a worn out record.
I will vote Reform. I think they are mad. But it might just prompt change. Not the same old same old.
This was literally the argument for voting for Trump on 2016.
At least Trump actually represented change. Change as in electing a psychopath and watching in horror as he sets everything on fire, admittedly. But America had certainly never elected anything like Trump.
Reform just represent a continuation of the same neoliberal economic dogma that has got us into the mess we’re in now - aggressive privatisation, tax cuts for rich people, deregulate finance and fingers crossed some crumbs trickle down to the working class. Albeit with more overt racism.
When the party is made up of ex failed Tories like Braverman, Jenrick, Leadsom et al, the only change they represent is their Rosette is a slightly lighter shade of Blue.
