Land Rover are owned by Tata and before that Ford so ‘British’?
Completely agree.
I believe if you look for a problem you will find one. A lot of individual energy is wasted on negatives - what could have been. Than positively- on what we could achieve. ![]()
It is still somewhat (incorrectly) considered British, and you are right in that it is foreign owned.
I live in Birmingham, literally 5 mins from the Solihull Site so have a lot of friends who work for them I suppose there is an attachment/affection.
No, it is really problematic with the new models. One of my mates is a technician/engineer, if I recall the conversation correctly the Engines are not generic. So, they are not the same - sounds crazy - he has to take photos of every engine he works on so that he knows where everything needs to be.
I understand the affection and attachment. Have/had family links to Birmingham many working in engineering in different forms.
The car industry, with all its suppliers etc, is massively important for a number of East European countries, like Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland and Romania and is a growth factor for many of them.
Many car manufacturers build/supply different engine derivatives.
And many engine problems derive from the recommended service & maintenance scheduled being ignored or not followed
Normally I would upbraid posters for going off topic in a thread, but in the UK politics thread it frankly comes as somewhat of a relief.
I am happy to bring it back on topic and annoy people ![]()
.
Maybe so, I am just recounting what he said. By the way these are brand news engines at 30k a pop.
Yep.
All the more reason to use the recommended oil and not get Joe Bloggs to service the car on his driveway
30k for an engine your kidding me. How much is the car?
Worlds gone mad
.
30k? Labour will tax it ![]()
That’s more like it. ![]()
Well yeah. It’s called VAT and it’s been around for ages.
Impressive rant:

And Russia gave us Dostoevsky who wrote about an idiot…
I will have to have a strong word with my mate for being loose by 4k. To be fair we were a few beers in at my mates hospitality booth at Villa Park for the Liverpool game - sorry for the Bragg, tough week and just wanted a bit of self assurance
.
If you factor in the original cost of manufacturing, supplying a replacement vehicle, compensation, etc it is a lot of money for a Company to absorb, irrelevant of the severity of the fault.
To be clear I am referring to brand new models, not ones that have had an on the drive service on cheap synthetic oil.
Additionally, one of my mates had a brand new Land Rover SUV (pushing £200k top end), only a couple of days in it suffered an electrical fault.
He couldn’t open the door to get back in and when the technician turned up he couldn’t fix the problem because he needed he needed to access the boot area, which again was completely disabled because the are pretty much completely electrically controlled with no real physical way of overriding this.
Maybe someone should remind him of why Russia still exists, I don’t recall Shakesphere or Dickens on the Battle field.
The good old Motherland were very happy to take France and Britains money and then screw them over in the Great War. Even after being passive to Nazi Germany and Supplying them with materials to attack the Allies in WWII, the Allies supported them when Germany gave them a taste of their own medicine by not honouring an agreement (Treaty 1939).
I appreciate it is all propaganda and Media censorship, it just Irks me
.
*Also, I accept that this is a basic assessment on History and does not take into consideration the whole complexity of the UKs relationship with Russia. Happy to do an Earl Spencer and apologise for any misunderstanding…
