It seems to have really generated some traction in the last 6 months or so based purely on the anecdotes of what I have heard. There were reports in some Republican counties in early voting of poll workers trying to get married couples to go into the same booth. That is illegal and seems a pretty clear response to this story by forcing women to vote with their husband looking over their shoulder.

General rule is be highly skeptical of any āsomething wasnt right in my experience when I went to voteā sort of story, but it is definitely true that the sentiment in the ad Livy shared does seem to have bubbled to the surface in the last 6 months or so. Albeit likely within my own little media bubble I have created for myself.
The first time I heard it was on a podcast where the host described her geriatric mum voting for the first time in her life in 2020. Her husband was a Republican and knew she would vote the other way so he coerced her into not going to vote all those years, but he died weeks before the election, freeing her to finally go. There was then a big rush of similar stories shared in response and it seems to have become a bit of a meme since

What a lot of people still dont grasp the magnitude of is just how full the the middle management level of todayās Republican campaigns is with men who grew up as active participants on the chan boards.
