US Election 2024

So, one week to go… :fearful:  :see_no_evil:

For all the talk of the polls swinging wildly, betting markets going wild, Trump appearing on Rogan and getting a huge audience, Kamala getting together the Latino Avengers etc…

Does anyone actually know a single person who has changed their minds on who they will vote for?

By the way I think the betting market story about Trump being hugely favored is not worth anything. It turns out over $20m was pumped into Trump’s odds by a single Billionaire in France, which of course has the effect of swinging the odds in Trump’s favor. Americans can’t place bets on the election so :person_shrugging:

That has got to be one of the easiest market manipulation tactics out there surely, do that then hit VIX hard.

This from the guy many have tipped to be Trump’s chief of staff should he win

This is a man the WaPo have previously described him saying his vision for the Trump presidency is “post-constitutional”. Understand that a big reason so many of these people are so extreme is because they have absolutely convinced themselves already their views are mainstream but being held back by shady powers that need to be excised. It is a permission structure they have created to justify even the most extreme actions

The Trump campaign attempt to distance themselves from Hinchcliffe’s comments about Puerto Rico saying the comments do not reflect Trump’s views.

However, it seems pretty consistent with Trump’s previous comments about the island and its people that it is a hell hole with absolutely no hope, that is was a like a distressed property, and delayed them federal disaster relief funds because he didnt think the people could manage the distribution of it and the money would go to waste, and instead tried to redirect the funds (explicitly approved for PR) to Texas and Florida

But that is not what Trump means, supposedly. Well if he doesn’t, the people who will lead his efforts sure as shit think that is what he means.

I can see how this disgraceful rally becomes the Ellipse rally of Jan 6. And they’ve even got the defense ready, “It was just a joke. We made fun of everybody.”

Anyway, nice of Melania to show. Wonder how her anti bullying campaign is going.

I think Melania’s renegotiated prenup probably included some minimum level of appearances, the closer we get to the election.

She’s a grifter too.

That Trump is president but they wont let him control the hurricane machines. Obama still has the keys and is creating them just to make Trump look bad. Or at least that was what many of them said about Hurricane Maria when Trump was in office

A old-school Republican friend of mine made an interesting procedural point. He thinks the possibility of Trump attempting to force the certification process off the rails is very real, but notes that the first act of a new Congress must be to select a Speaker. In 2020, the Democrats actually had the majority, so it was pro forma - Pelosi remained as Speaker, but it was still a formal legislative act that had to be completed before certification.

Johnson only emerged as Speaker after a three week clusterfuck, and has been incredibly weak ever since. On the assumption that the Republicans hold the House, his re-election is by no means certain, and even less likely to be smooth.
