US Election 2024

With him winning in popular votes too, it would be interesting to have some data on whether overall, how many more voters turnout over the last elections and whether it was a swing of Blue/undecided voters to Red or just a much larger turnout of Red voters compared to Blue.

@Arminius, if you can be arsed, what do you think the economic implications of this will be?

They believe they are being lied to about all of that.

I am still shocked Trump has won, despite his track record as an inept President and criminal record.

Inflation would be my bet. It’s the only outcome of tariffs and protectionism.

Definitely didn’t help that Biden held on for so long before relinquishing the race.

It feels likely that some libertarian ideologue will get in his ear, probably Musk, and add another few trillion to the debt via uncosted tax cuts.

There is a very likely possibility that Trump dies in office and Vance becomes the next POTUS. How much worse is that? Or will we go back to Bush era Republicanism? I don’t think that sort of platform can win over the loons anymore so might see a doubling down on the current rhetoric.
But the wild card is how the cult reacts to Vance taking over once Trump is dead or becomes incapacitated. They will definitely come up with conspiracies that Vance and the deep state took him out to gain power.

If only it was about them and not the entire world.

The implications for the climate alone are enough to make your skin crawl, let alone everything else.

would it go up to Covid rates of 7%? I might be wrong, but during Trump’s first term, the inflation was pretty stable then isn’t it? But Biden’s term unfortunately hit by Covid meant he did pump in alot of money into the economy to prop it up but that also cause inflation to peak.

It is 100% worst case scenario now. Four more years plus whatever damage he does beyond that has just gone down the shitter.

I guess some would argue we’re already at worst-case scenario anyway.

Nah mate it’s more ingrained than that. You can engage until you’re blue in the face. They won’t believe you. That’s how they’re getting their first criminally convicted president. They don’t believe their own courts. That’s their own rule of law. Because to them Trump is above all that.
Americans are by and large a friendly people. But they’re a lot more touchy about their politics than we are.

The worst thing about it is that it is unfortunately contagious. The idiots here are already starting to cheer, finally no more money for Ukraine, no more war, etc. Very clever and I am already ashamed of it.

This is a very big victory for Putin as well.

I think he means dems should do more to energize their base.
We didn’t see Trump and his ilk even try to reach across the aisle at any point. They know their base and riled them up since 2008.

I know at this moment people are going to just say that Harris lost because of Trump’s propanganda and fake news etc. But I am sure there are points that Harris might have miss a trick. What do you think Harris could have done or say better to win?

It could if he does as he has promised. 60% Tariff on goods made in China, 20% on all other goods.

This particularly would impact oil and gas prices.

The real question is if he would ever go through with it, or is it simply rhetoric.

As i left the house, i told my housemate the impending result, still sleepy-eyed. She slapped her face twice in shock.

Who won the US elections:

Putin and Russia, dictatorships and misanthropists, climate crisis deniers and billionaires, lies and science denial, the most vulgar incitement and hatred, threats and the drastically advancing brutalization of our society. Bitter, but true.
