And the other thing is to not get into a fist fight with an idiot , he drags you down to his level and beats you with experience
Revolution; itās not going to be pretty.
I agree but this would take Democrats to have the courage of their convictions. For some reason they understand that a progressive agenda is important to win support within the party but then seem to believe moderating that is important to winning the country. I hope that changes but I strongly doubt it.
You do still have to point out the negatives of the other guy though and they even failed there. Saying āheās anti-abortionā doesnāt hit when he is campaigning on that same message.
How about pointing out heās an old as fuck senile criminal whose own wife doesnāt want to be seen in public with him?
if there is one lesson to learn for future elections, this is it. Donāt talk about the negatives of your opponent, keep talking about the positives in your own political program, and the vision you have for the future. Thatās what moves people.
Not arguing but given the scale of issues that are associated with Trump itās incredible that they were completely ignored.
I completely understand the screams for political change and I agree they are necessary but this is not the way. Harris probably isnt either so Iām stuck.
We are so fucked
In that sense, @Nobluff was right, by the way. He called it early in her campaign
Yes credit where credit is due.
Everyone is watching what happens next though.
I think anyone that held out hope of the return of some kind of civility politics got a reality check last night. That era is dead and will probably stay that way, at least until Trump is long dead.
The last of the dem old guard need to be swept aside and make way for the next generation. You canāt keep trying to ride the energy of a populist movement without the populism.
That looked likely for at least a year now, especially after October 7th and Bidenās diminished cognition. There was brief hope when he finally stepped down but they wasted that capital.
I am of the opinion that it probably hurts the likes of Le Pen not helps.
As for Trump he probably dies in office, MAGA supporters even seem unsure who then takes over. They donāt particularly seem to be able to get behind Vance.
Cult of Personality and all that interesting to note they will dependent on whether elections survive have another election before the UK does.
Both parties now face a cross roads and frankly it would be wise for someone to step up right now and take it forward.
Anyhow my old adage remains they will vote for a gay before they vote for a woman.
What does that look like? @dalglish mentioned revolution. Maybe thatās it? I dont know.
Somewhere along the line people need to understand that significant change is needed. Maybe they do already, its just how you get there. A Trump presidency is certainly not it.
You elected someone who is openly racist, on top of everything else.
Congratulations. The next 4 years are going to be a peach for you.
We know that Trump works for himself, and a few people in his inner circle. There are a bunch of people who are going to be able to profit from his politics and policies by being caught in his slipstream.
Everyone else will be made worse off. @LuisSuarez will almost certainly be one of them.
I saw a video yesterday of a left-leaning youtuber talking about a ābig errorā Trump made on the eve of the election by calling Nancy Pelosi a bitch.
My reaction was to question in what way that was an error. The left hate Pelosi, the right hate Pelosi. There was an imagined demographic of middle America women who would be mortified to hear a woman called a bitch and change their vote to Harris. Are we fucking mental? After everything that man has said and done we think anyone can be swayed by his actual actions and behaviors?
Kidding ourselves that there is a winnable middle in America thesedays. The left have a base, the right have a base. End of. Democrats canāt keep trying to play the middle ground.
Not an American obviously, but I used to think like that. Used to make fun of the US Dems always chasing the mythical suburban Republican swing voter; while turning off their base. Iām not so sure anymore. Americans like progressive positions, isolated and on paper, but they almost never turn out for progressive, more leftist candidiates, outside of a few local/state exceptions.
And if this part of the base honestly thought that Trump was better for them, or at least not bad enough to feel motivated to go out and vote against him, thenā¦I donāt knowā¦Tbh, theyāre part of the problem as well.
Iād blame Biden for this.
He should have left the race long before for a candidate like Sanders to emerge.
Rather than leave it at the very end with the democrats having no choice but to give it to Kamala
Reading @Sweeting ās post, seems like Kamala had it well under control and her strategists completely dropped the ball on this one.
Yup take several abortion votes even the one lost are in favour of enshrining and yet Trump sweeps the state.

The left absolutely is part of the problem but I think a lot of people are unmotivated by popular positions continually being ignored. And its hard to say they donāt show up for progressive candidates when we havenāt seen anyone run on progressive platforms.
I see millions of votes left on the floor out there, people who looked at both candidates and said neither of them are who I want so Iām not voting for either of them. There are a lot of people who donāt know a lot about politics, getting endorsements from anti-Trump Republicans means absolutely nothing to them. If they heard āHarris will reduce childcare costsā that may have motivated a voter who was otherwise unsure. All they heard was āMark Milley said Trump is a fascistā and shrugged saying who the fuck is Mark Milley?
I do think there are a significant amount of people who looked at the options and shrugged. Harris didnāt reinforce the message about why someone should vote for her.
One thing that is intriguing and I thought it when both Biden and Trump were the candidates it seemed.
Putin, Modi, Xi Jinping and now Trump are all of a similar age.
It looks like Turkey and Hungary are also starting to feel the affect of incumbency as well.
The Earth climate wise is done and mostly dusted. Future generations will have to live or mostly die with that.
However the glorious 1000 year 3rd Reich only lasted 12 years these guys are already on the ticking clock.
All that can be guaranteed in the next decade is change.
What does that look like? @dalglish mentioned revolution. Maybe thatās it?
A a leftist revolution would only work via the ballot box. Not enough people have an appetite for anything messier than that. Maybe once enough people are starving in the streets and are desperate enough, but I donāt see that happening anytime in our lifetimes.
Need to kill voter apathy. Republicans, despite being the ideological minority always manage to show up in numbers. Dems have so much more to tap into, will this finally be their tipping point? Depends on how bad the next 4 years gets.
Trump has 2 years to deliver if he doesnāt do what he wants he will lose the house and be pretty much hamstrung heās also going be 80 which is pushing especially with his health.
I donāt buy this century of tyrany idea too many of them are too old without any obvious successor.
Far right in France and Italy have some route of lineage even if Le Pen again fails and itās entirely possible they will be back again the time after that.
Iām not sure where Maga goes? The republicans seemed to have 7 or 8 candidates around Obamaās era, Problem is Trump has many faces. Vance and the like have one

As you alluded to earlier, the impending/ongoing climate crisis will have a say in that.
How will nations react when faced with several millions of climate refugees? I fear that this generation of the far-right have already planted the seeds of dehumanizing the less fortunate.
