US Election 2024

I’m surprised by the Cuban figures - 58% voting Harris, given the Miami connection. I would have thought they would have similarly voted in line with the others you mention (I admit I have a lack of knowledge in this area)

I think you’ve read it wrong. Cubans were 58-40 Trump.

This figure is fascinating and really drives home the problem of why Dem messages arent getting to the younger crowd

https://x.com/BFriedmanDC/status/1854726734874055042

If you look at the blue, every single one of those is explicitly political. The only people who are encountering messages from those people are people explicitly looking for political content and so are inclined to agree with the Dem perspective already. Then look at the red. Sure you have your tuckers and other partisans, but a huge portion of that reach is content that is popular for being general interest stuff. People come for info on gaming or working out or some other hook unrelated to politics and leave being red pilled. The left has lost cultural relevance in the under 30 demo because of this, especially among men. Campaign messaging can not break through during an election if that is the landscape it has to penetrate.

The friction with the Federal Reserve did not take long…

I hate it when you’re right.

The interesting bit is why the friction here is standing out. Powell is not unique in being targeted, it is just he is one of the only people on the enemies list who has some pretense of legal standing to not acquiesce. The quietness everywhere else across government is kind of disconcerting, because none of them are under any pretense that they are going to avoid the shit that is coming.

An old friend at EPA expects to be fired by February.

I messaged my old Regulatory Affairs advisor who is now back at the FDA just to see how she is doing. She said she was putting off responding to people in detail at the moment and expected to be able to come back with a more engaging complete response in January once she is unemployed :joy: :skull_and_crossbones: :see_no_evil:

Will there even still be an EPA by February?

We need an EPA to give official government pronouncements that dumping industrial waste into our water is safe. You dont get rid of the agencies, you just clear it out of the professionals delivering on their mission.

Oh yeah, Project 2025 here we come baby!

On a side note, I’d just like to emphasise just how bad this is, because this isn’t something you can come back from in 4 years. The amount of institutional expertise being lost is insane.

Perfect illustration of the incoherence and lack of self-awareness of MAGA

https://x.com/BmbEmpower/status/1854588787805798471

He does all this shit to a random black woman, and then smugly tries to stand on his perceived superiority by claiming he is better than her for not hitting her as “tyrone from the hood” would have.

What is interesting is that Powell, like many others, is already the subject of discussion in Republican circles. He isn’t speaking into a vacuum, he is commenting on open speculation. Where it gets tricky is that like so much of the American political system, it relies far more on norms than Americans like to think it does. The Federal Reserve has always been an anomaly in the esoteric realm of central bank studies, because by formal and objective measures it is not nearly as independent as it actually has been in operation. It is actually below the global median in the World Bank/IMF measure. It has been taken as read that a President cannot fire the head of the Fed, that is a norm. There is nothing statutory. The only reason it might not happen is Powell is gone in 2026.

This is quite the map, although it needs to be considered in light of the fact that Trump actually got fewer votes in 2024 than he did in 2020

As of late last night we still have about 11 million votes left to add to the tally. That’s going to put us really pretty close to where we were in 2020 in terms of raw numbers. Given about 7 million of those votes are in CA alone, Harris will end up with about 13-14 million more votes than Trump had in 2016. Maybe even more than Trump had in 2020. Of course that doesnt count for much that matters, but worth pointing out seeing as Trump 2020 > Trump 2016 was a big rallying cry for the stop the steal movement.

Posted by one of those smug “I must immediately have wrong take after an election” liberals who love talking shit about his own supposed coalition. These takes refuse to acknowledge that you cannot assume your message landed and people who voted the other way just disagreed with you. Sometimes the post mortem is about trying to understand how people who should have agreed with you somehow didnt hear you.

And then responses…full of MAGA idiots just utterly oblivious to the clear threat, one already articulated by Trump and his crew, that being here legally does not you will be unaffected by this shit.

Its really not, its a fraction of a majority. To think 80m of Americans think this way is an emotional response to disappointment. These types of idiots are everywhere in the world.
