This feels a bit like the time when I found out that Michael Howard, former leader of the Conservative Party, has been a lifelong and passionate Liverpool supporter.
How do I get my head around it?
I put it down to the greatness of Liverpool Football Club. It has the ability to transcend lots of things that might otherwise divide people, including politics. LFC is so compelling that even some questionable people, who would probably not pass the pint test, have been drawn in.
Perhaps it’s a sign that they still have a bit of a soul left? Perhaps that residue has pulled them toward something quite incredible, which we all share, even if their day job is dodgy?

How does everyone watch games now? Had Peacock (still do), and could watch all of emm, even if you had to wait for the replay. Kept waiting for the first game this year to pop on, and realized that it won’t. NBC has slowly changed where games are broadcast year to year. Their coverage is still top notch, but it’s all become a cable package again.
Thinking of canceling peacock and signing up for YouTube ‘sports’ tv package. Any other ideas out there? It’s quite a bit more expensive. Am i missing something? I’m to old to try and pirate all this crap, just want to be able to turn the tv on and watch the games.
Sling Blue is about half the price of Hulu or youtube TV
It’s utterly bizzare.
If you look at the 10 games this week, 7 are being shown on cable, 6 on USA and only the late game on Saturday on NBC. The other 3 are all live on Peacock. But in contrast to how they sold it and what people have reasonably come to expect only one of those 7 broadcast games (Newcastle vs Brighton in the late sat slot) is also available on peacock. Looking at the replays from last week, only 4 of the 10 are seemingly available.
I dont get what they are doing, even more so given that USA is part of what got spun off into Versant and is now outside of the core NBC Universal group that actually owns the broadcast rights. There is some requirement in that contract to broadcast on cable so they were always going to have to keep some with USA (assuming they didnt think NBC could accommodate all their broadcast games), but they have somehow gone the other direction and doubled down on giving access to a company they dont even own anymore.
The only way I can make sense of it is this was some sort of concession made the new “garbage co” company in the spin off. Old Comcast shareholders got their shares split into both companies and so will still have an interest in Versant being viable, and so maybe the thinking is this is a short term juicing of the performance and hopefully the stock to give them all enough time to get out before NBC Universal eventually takes back all the games.
The interesting thing is NBC’s rights expire at the end of next season and it will be interesting to see what sort of broadcast requirement the prem insist on or whether they really can transition into it really letting Peacock own it and then supplementing that with occasional NBC broadcasts for big games.
Looking into this a bit more, I think I get what is happening.
NBC Sports were the named rights holders and they have stayed under the NBCUniversal banner (owner of peacock). However, in the breakup Versant appear to have been able to argue that as the contract included x number of exclusive broadcast games they should assume that portion of the contract. So USA is just continuing with the same number of games, but as those are being broadcast from an org that Peacock is not a part of they no longer have the rights to simulcast them or even show them on replay without an additional deal being struck with Versant.
This looks like what we’re going to be stuck with for the next 2 seasons which makes peacock really a bit of a waste of money.
Yeah it’s terrible. I’ve canceled Peacock already. I think I’m going to do a smaller youtube tv package and cancel a bunch streaming services. Time is a flat circle.
Peacock is $10.99 now. That is a lot if it’s only going to give me one game every other month or so, especially as there is nothing else on there I watch

Just to follow up - I signed up for the ‘sports’ YTTV package - 44.99 for 6 months, then 64.99. Way more expensive than Peacock - but I used it as an excuse to cut Peacock, as well as two other streaming services I almost never use - and you get all the games, including the Peacock ones. Not sure we will get the Peacock games all year, but they are putting them on NBC sports overflow channels, so you get them all with the package up to this point.
I’ll also get to watch some champions league games again - CBS sports is part of the package. I had simply stopped watching those games when they disappeared to CBS land.
I switched to regular YTTV a while ago and loved it as a product, but other than the football on USA/NBC there is almost nothing I watch on it anymore (Big Brother on CBS that I can get on Paramount) and its up to $90+.
Does this skinny package have USA and NBC for the football?

I just got an email of a further Peacock price increase next month. This might be the last straw.
