With last night’s goal VVD now has the best goal contribution record of his career, 16 goals and seven assists. His previous best with Celtic was 15 goals and seven assists. Overall, he has 45 goals and 19 assists in his career. #Colossus
Yes, he’s easily the best CB who’s ever played for us. I’ve seen all the great Liverpool teams since the early seventies. Previously I would have said Hansen was the best but I’ve been saying Virgil is the greatest I’ve seen since 2019. Had a dip following his injury but is back to his very best now.
I said it was my opinion. My opinion is that your opinion that my opinion is nonsense, is nonsense. Agger was bang average at best. But I suppose our side was bang average then, so stands to reason.
I’m just happy we’ve finally got a pool of Centre Backs who are brilliant, led by one of the best to ever play the game.
Nah, for me Agger wasn’t quite top class and certainly wasn’t average either. I do understand and agree that he’s (not the only one of course) sometimes slightly overrated by us because he was one of those highly likeable players and characters. When fit and in form, he was very good. That wasn’t too often (in periods from season to season, periods inside a season, etc.), unfortunately. Just a nice story overall, came as a young unknown player and remained with us for a long time. Also at times when he could’ve played a slightly higher level than those Liverpool teams. But that’s for me exactly where about the truth lies, if he was better than he was, he would’ve left sooner or later (regardless of his sympathy and love for our club).
Virgil’s penno still makes me smile - especially the stare down of Kepa after he smashed it in. His penno, coupled with Fabinho’s just before, were the two decisive blows in that shootout to Kepa mentally.
Interestingly, that was the first penalty Virgil has taken in his professional career - that’s how you do it eh!
Me too. Loads of other stats in the pre-game link that I’d missed as well…
Liverpool can record their 600th Premier League victory this evening.
The Reds will become just the fourth club – after Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal – to reach the figure if they pick up three points against West Ham United at Anfield.
Liverpool are three goals away from recording their 2,000th in the Premier League era, with only Manchester United (2,172) scoring more.
Should a Reds player score his first league goal of the season, this team will set a new club record of 18 different league scorers in a single campaign.
With 12 league games still to play, Liverpool have scored two more goals (70) than they did in the whole of last season.
Their current goal difference of +50 is their best at this stage of a campaign since 1987-88, while the 70 goals recorded is their best since 1895-96 and the third-most in history after 26 league games.
Mohamed Salah is one goal short of reaching 20 league goals in a single campaign for the fourth time in his five seasons with the Reds. He scored 19 times in the other campaign.
One more goal will see Salah equal John Toshack’s club record of 10 goals against West Ham in all competitions.
Along with Watford, Salah has scored more goals against the Hammers than he has against any other team (nine).
The No.11 averages a goal every 102 minutes in all competitions this season.
No team has done a league double over Liverpool during the reign of Jürgen Klopp.
The Reds have not conceded a first-half goal in any of the last 12 games.
Klopp’s men have scored the match’s first goal 30 times in all competitions this season, winning 27 and drawing three.
