Virgil VAN DIJK: 2025/26

Your best post, made me smile :face_blowing_a_kiss:

I hope, VVD extend his contract.

Our only reliable centre back has had a hand in all three goals we conceded tonight. Also, the third was eerily similar to the first goal we conceded to PSV. Whether it’s age, fatigue or something else altogether, I don’t have a clue, but this is the first time ever that I’ve actually been worried about the rest of his Liverpool career.

He’s gone under the radar for some time because of the woeful form of Konate and the team in general.
His passive defending has cost us a number of goals. Don’t know if it’s fear of another bad injury but he doesn’t want to do the dirty work these days and shy’s away from physical contact.
For the first time tonight I thought his time here should be up but given that would need us signing 4 CB’s in the summer he’ll probably escape the cull.

Anyone have sometimes a worst day. Virgil is nevertheless world-class.

FIFY, sadly

I doubt that you could name 5 better defenders even now.

I dont know that I’ve seen it commented, but I hated his post-game comments about the goals we conceded. No ownership at all was taken for his fuck up on the first and instead just comments about the wind create tricky conditions. Sure, but you still failed to deal with it and directly contributed to a game changing goal. Not being able to own this sort of fuck up is a really bad sign of where this group is and whether they have the capacity to pull themselves out of it.

It was his immediate response to it that annoyed me, turned towards Alisson and threw his hands in the air in a classic ā€˜not my fault’ gesture.

having played at a not very decent standard, i know that feeling when your head kinda knows your done/almost done at your best level, and your body is hurting…

i know i was a bit of a cunt, and i lashed out…all the rungs down the ladder i was…

i can only imagine what big Virg is going though his head at the current situation. not even a year ago he was on a bus making the most iconic screen shots of all time…

he did the wrong thing…but …yknow…its VVD…hes kinda earnt the right…

No one has the right to be toxic or to be dragging the team down.

I think he’s an awful captain. There, I said it.

For me the best captains are those who have to graft, rather than the most talented or for whom things come easy.

They lead by the example of their effort and by that inspire everyone around them to push that bit harder.

When you see your captain just coasting around (and getting away with it half the time), I don’t think that’s particularly motivating. Particularly when he doesn’t take responsibility for his part in defensive errors (which are often mostly his).

I’d give Dom the armband right now.

I’ve been saying it for years. He did a good job at organising the defence which should be all he needs on his plate.

Our defensive errors are often mostly his? This season or since when?

Since Konate and Kerkez started to get their shit together a bit more. So in the last 2 months or so, but Virgil has been making mistakes for some time now. Going back at least a year.

Having a chat with 2 other fella Liverpool supporters last night after footy and we discussed the captain and all said Szob as he is the one setting the example.

For me he seems the logical choice and the best of a rather uninspiring bunch, as there just doesn’t seem a standout option.

We really miss a Hendo or Carra type of vocal organiser or a leader like Milly setting the standards off the pitch.

I hoped Robbo would take Milly’s role but with not playing he seems subdued.

Hattrick of assists, masterclass.

Give VVD the NĀŗ10 playmaker role and Wirtz at central defender.
