I was about to post this as well. Well done Virgil for telling things as they are. :+1:

Another list unfortunately separated by focusing only on the PL era (at least they count goals in all competitions…).

Top 5 list:

Virgil - 23
Hyypia - 22
Riise - 21
Trent - 18
Skrtel - 16

Though we all know that from Riise’s 21, a good few of them were scored when he played on the wing.

What’s incredible is not only does Lawler still have him beaten, but the guy who replaced him and spent the following 10 years with the RB shirt locked down does too.

Plus some others like Hughes and Nicol. Alan Kennedy also not far behind.

This Virg is a bit shit really! :joy:

Players are pretty tone deaf to the optics of posting stuff like this after a defeat.

Shit again today.

Might get one more decent year out of him under a new manager but tbh he’s been living off his reputation for some time.
I think it’s more a mental issue with him. His passive defending suggests he’s scared to put himself where it hurts for fear of another bad injury. All compounded by his arrogance in thinking it’s never his fault and his mere presence should be enough.
We need 3 new CB’s in the summer.

Yep. Could see a new manager, especially one who comes in now, deciding he wanted Virg out in the summer as part of a central defence and midfield refresh.

What was Konate if he was shit.

Can’t they both be shit?

Is it time to take the captaincy off him so he can concentrate on his own game or would this be too much of a negative to his ego?

If we did remove the captaincy, who would be the ideal candidate, Szobo?

I don’t think we have a great selection.

Aside from the fact that it wouldn’t happen under Slot anyway, I do think it would be a loss of confidence for Virgil, yes. I don’t know if everything a captain actually contributes, both on and off the pitch, is truly appreciated. And Virgil really does many things very, very well. There’s absolutely no reason to remove him just because he’s not always performing at his best at the moment. It’s also about representing the club externally, with everything that entails. Szobo’s time will come when Virgil retires, but Slot will probably prefer Gakpo. :joy:

Agreed on that Arne wouldn’t and it possibly would dent Virg’s confidence and overall he does a very good job, but sometimes it comes a case in that he needs to concentrate on his own form and the backline rather than the whole team.

Wouldn’t be an easy concersation.
