Volleyball (Hard court and Beach)

Love this sport (especially the hard court version). I played a little bit, not good at all but I had fun, and unfortunately my knees won’t hold up anymore. Just watched the Women’s Volleyball Nations League final between Turkey and Brazil (Italy came in 3rd place). Turkey with Melissa Vargas is absolutely scary.

Highlight of today’s match.

Full match final between Italy and Brazil from last year.

Loved both, especially playing court volleyball after my holidays and spending time playing beach volleyball.

Court volleyball became so much easier.

I did the sand court v-ball (by the beach or indoors) too but with six-a-side. It’s much easier on my legs and I did not mind diving on the hot sand (not the wet sand though). The mix & match team I was on actually won our division. We had problems with our mixed players: One of the guy was too good and he hogged almost everything, while I was too hard on myself on every miss (I learned my lesson after a chat with one of the teammate). The ladies on the team hated us for that and wanted the tourney to end ASAP.

Hate it. Nothing against the actual sport but recruiting for my soccer team at the high school is a nightmare because of volleyball. We overstretch ourselves as a school and have Field Hockey, Golf, Cross Country, Soccer and Volleyball available for girls to play in the Fall semester. We only have about 300 girls total in the school! So many tall, athletic girls choose volleyball while I can’t find a goalkeeper for love nor money :joy:

whenever I go on holidays to the tropics, always search out the beach court on day1. best thing to do after breakfast is a couple of sets on the court before the sun gets too hot. with a shot of tequila

I caught the Ottawa men’s games in June - sadly, Canada’s only win (against a good France side) in a relegation season. Impressive how fast the ball moves at that level of play, new thing for me.

The movements of the men are so fast. They could set up 3-men block in a blink of an eye. I rarely see that in women’s volleyball.

For Canada getting relegated, I wonder how hard it will be to get promoted again. Lots of new comers to the team and it will take a while to get back to the higher level.

I can’t believe Nishida’s vertical. he just floats up there.

I tried to watch as many VNL matches as I can, but CBC Sports only carries live matches and there are no replays. I can only catch the 7:30 AM EDT live matches so far.

There are 2 QF matches tomorrow:
Slovenia vs Turkiye at 3AM EDT,
Japan vs China at 7:30AM EDT.

Then on Thursday, the other 2 QF matches:
Italy vs US at 3AM EDT,
Poland vs Ukraine at 7:30AM EDT.
