War in Iran : Trump's latest misadventure

Ahmadinijad is actually alive, according to multiple media. He was thought killed by israel.

This is actually not the worst, since he has a lot of respect also by anti-regime Iranians. Obviously, he is still Old Guard, but far from as extreme as most Westerners actually think (apart from Holocaust denying).

Some exile-Iranians actually think he could be a uniting figure, uniting conservatives and liberals in a post-theocratic Iran.

(the latter we kind of knew from the explosion, but satelite imagery is nifty.

(this means there are several critically injured or already dead, but OPSEC and families)

Yeah

An Iranian Ballistic Missile has hit Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar around 20 min ago. Unclear extent of damage, CNN reported it but I have not seen video (yet)

Do not for a second think this is a dusty desert town, it is an absolute pictoresque gem that most tourists would have loved to visit.

I mean, I know I would.

One can hope, but that man is not going to risk himself close to US installations.

He always seemed to me very reasonable. Did his best to guide Iran away from the Ayatollah’s. But as long as the Ayatollah trend continues, he’ll have no chance.

I honestly thought he was far more extreme than he was, but that was because I took his firery rethoric seriously. Then again, that is many years ago. That he was a holocast denier also didn’t help and certainly helped shape my impression of him.

But apparantly, he has been in extensive contact, on record and off record, with Iranian democracy activists; and he told them things that was not at all very hardline.

Probably mistook them for Sukhoi’s, I assume. Still pretty special

Rouhani is potentially a good pick too as well.

All this is provided Israel and the US leave them alive. Iran isn’t going to return to what it was pre the Ayatollah’s. But it’s about having a country which can find itself balanced.

I thought he was in Dubai already?

Are IRGC and the Iranian Army being differentiated ?

He is.
The video is him ranting about how big balls he has, while others have none. Which is why he is staying “even if I have to go without food”. He is of course swimming in money and lives in luxury, so it was rather special.

I’m wondering how many people want to use @Iftikhar’s favourite GIF right now…

This doesn’t really belong in this thread, but I have criticised certain posters on the forum because they used this guy as a source for Gaza “news” and opinions.

Do you people understand why I feel the need to sometimes notify people that their source is…not the best ?

I hope so…

Talking about dubious sources, I spent an hour or so just listening to Medhurst whine and whinge when Assad’s despot regime fell. One of the best hours spent.

I found this slightly amusing

Imo, this is much more controversial than the sinking of the General Belgrano (which imo was perfectly fine, but I note that it was controversial at the time).

But sure, it is technically lawful (ignoring the legality of the war itself), but I would like to know if they were offered a chance to abandon ship or not. Because it is borderline this and seems kind of a waste of lives (if they were not given the chance to abandon ship). Not convinced this ship was a real threat that needed sinking without warning, given its location (ancient frigate all alone outsde Sri Lanka ???). I suspect the US could have afforded to give it 15 min evacuation time before launching torpedos. And yes, I know what a frigate is (ASW blah blah, but still)…

A bit Belgrano isn’t it.

But significantly “worse” imo.
