“As far as negotiations for a peace deal go, the Iranians ”blame Trump for constantly asking for modifications and then modifying his own modifications,” said Ali Vaez, an analyst with the International Crisis Group, a nonprofit think tank focused on global conflicts, who has contacts in Tehran.”
Are they suggesting Trump , the great dealmaker , doesn’t even know his own mind ?

The US disable those boats outside the strait so technically boats pass but get stopped after.
Useful video on what is happening in the oil markets, how it’s being played so easily, and what happens in July. Sorry it’s Facebook
I am rather puzzled about the MT Settebello incident. I don’t understand why the next step in the American blockage was the use of an air-to-sea missile (leaving aside all discussion of the legality of the blockade). A tanker is not going to outrun any blockading ship of war, nowhere close. A simple intercept and some shots across the bow would seem the obvious next step unless the ship was about to enter threatening waters - but my understanding is that the tanker was full and heading out to open international waters (and was already in international waters at the time).
It’s more curious (ominous!) given the way US forces have ‘enforced’ the blockade in the recent past. I think only once they have fired to neutralize a vessel’s engine, other than that they either fire warning shots or just instruct a vessel to comply.
This firing on cargo ships by the US is very strange considering the resources they probably have in place.
The French manage to ‘intercept’ Russian shadow fleet without firing at them they just board them by helicopter or other take control then get more support on.
I mean if France can do it surely the superior US can?
President Pissy Pants has just angrily posted about the dishonourable Iranians leaking fake details of his deal to the fake news. Unsurprisingly , it’s all probably true.
After Donald Trump claimed a draft deal to end the US-Israeli war on Iran was ready, adding that any agreement would strip Iran of its enriched nuclear material, Tehran’s official IRNA news agency said that was out of the question.
I don’t really understand it. If nuclear enrichment is a Red Line, then there is no point with a ceasefire and it must be communicated clearly. Obviously, the high grade HEU should be a red line and there should be a limits to enrichment such as with the atomic pact Obama’s team negotiated. Anything less than that is a disaster. But Iran is not going to accept No Enrichment. I don’t get that.
Anyway, to follow up on what Peter posted, this was Trump’s latest post on the deal which clearly isn’t a deal.

The Iranian version of what could only be called a US conditional capitulation

I don’t think these terms are palpatable for the US politically myself. Critically, they have also forgotten the enriched uranium. The terms greatlt favours Iran and would not be a White Peace at all.
Says the guy who has bombed Iran twice while being in negotiations
On one level it’s a complete red herring anyway. Ok , they’ve still got so much HEU but it’s not bomb grade and besides they no longer have the means to restart enrichment , not since the centrifuges and reactors were ‘obliterated’ in the first war. There is no enrichment going on and nor is there likely to be for a very long time.
What it comes down to is that Iran flat refuses to negotiate away its right to enrich uranium and that Trump is going to have to settle for something similar to the JCPOA. That’s absolute anathema to him and explains his flailing around for some way to present this as something better than Obama achieved. And of course that points to the absolute folly of the entire enterprise.
No, the Settebello is in fact the 3rd Indian (in flag or otherwise) ship they have actually fired on fairly recently - this is just the first with fatalities. A crew of 24(?) Indian nationals had to be evacuated from their ship in the previous incident.
Absolutely hilarious to see Trump complaining about dealing in good faith.
Yes, they had used firepower before. What I meant was they had also used other/nonlethal means too.
I think it is fairly obvious that Trump TACOed and is once again trying to negotiate his way to a victory the US has not won. The two sides are still stating ‘red lines’ that are not reconciled, there isn’t actually a deal. Maybe some progress, maybe Trump did not want to derail that progress with yet another escalation, but this now marks either the 39th of 40th time he has claimed there is an agreement.
I honestly thought he had already offered that, except it had his name on it. And rightly so Iran rejected it.
39th time lucky???
