I wrote on Twitter that he looked like he was in purgatory and tries not to scream from the agony, haha.
A perfect distillation here of the folly of Operation Epic Fuck Up from The Guardian’s Simon Jenkins.
It was his only option in the end. Pull out and claim victory.
My only partial surprise is the the financial settlement has been made public. Iran would have released it anyway I guess.
New round of tariffs on Monday?
Actually, the new round was about 10 days ago, it was just lost in the brouhaha. Apparently, the EU and most of the rest of the US’ major trade partners rely on ‘slave labour’ and it is up to MAGA to make that right by slapping on tariffs.
Oil is down 20% and his approval rating gets an immediate boost. That’s all that matters as far as he’s concerned. His minions can deal with the collateral damage.
Et voilà … “Donald J. Trump is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel at this moment in time, If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have anywhere left in the entire world.” - Vance , today.
I was thinking that he will need a distraction, which is a usual tactic.
Time for another, fake, assassination attempt?
Absolute numpties, the whole lot of them.
Honestly, are we surprised?
No, of course not. But their abysmal stupidity is still breathtaking.
Before I agree whole heatedly I’ll take a quick look at the markets to see if there were any “interesting” trades undertaken before they pulled out.
Apparently, the US’ regional proxy doesn’t want to make peace:
“With all due respect to the Americans, Israel must make it clear to the entire world that the blood of our sons and the security of our citizens are not up for bargaining. All of Lebanon must burn,” Ben-Gvir said in a statement.
Again: are we surprised? Stupidity reigns supreme these days…
A regime change in Israel is not just necessary, but absolutely essential for some semblance of sanity in the region. That asshole is worse than the Korean lunatic.
Is it likely that a regime change would produce anything better?
The Israeli population has been brainwashed into thinking that the only way is tougher, harder, less humane. Any sign of ‘weakness’ will lead to their annihilation.
The Power of Nightmares…
I know that a large/huge part of Israel thrives on hatred, but it’s the likes of Netanyahu who keep the flame burning. Average Israelis aren’t monsters. You remove Netanyahu, and the healing can start. The recuperation will take time, but only after the surgery.
The reason why I am empathically having an evil grin on my face and while brushing my cruel folded hands back and forth when reading that ?
Israeli national psychosis and entitled arrogance on the right wing spectrum, is so overwhelming that they will now (and are) attack Trump with overwhelming Hasbara and politically outraged statements. This will dramatically backfire…
I’m not sure where I heard it reported but that (Hasbara) is precisely what they have already decided on , and if we’ve heard it then so has Trump. If Netanyahu wants to salvage anything from the shitshow he’s created then he could do worse than not telegraphing his strategy. Iran must be lapping this all up.
