It’s like the Americans still have no idea what they are doing and who they are at war with. After all this time, no one has been able to give (or convince him to choose) Uncle Donald better options than such Hail Mary plans like we see now enacted with Operation “Project Freedom”.
It’s like the entire plan consists of “We’ve hit Iran really fucking hard, they know we can hit them much harder and because of that they will accept our face saving operation to avoid getting blown up”. Which would have have maybe worked fine if their “partner” in the dance was Canada or the UK, but it’s not.
It’s someone who you threatened with regime change, so they want to inflict so much damage that you abandon the idea and many haven’t abandoned it; so Iran will gamble that they can survive the economic and social pain and sacrifice more. At least it is willing to do so, which should come as no surprise really to anyone but Trump at this point in time.

This idea that Iran would sit tight without any negotiation progress is/was nuts. At some point, whilst the orange nutcase hesitated, they had to force the issue.

It’s a number of them running the show and their main priority is political victory and humilation of Trump and the US. They are willing to sacrifice quite a lot of pawns, as well as officers on the board, to get the peace they want.
It might not even be better than this, the entire point may just be the increased economic and political damage the US takes from prolonging this. For them it is (almost) irrelevant that they suffer more, for that is the nature of assymetric warfare anyway.
Side note, I really feel for the Lebanese people. Because they are kind of fucked now if this kicks off at scale.

Exactly. They literally, the entire thing, their thing, the Revolution; It’s all about blood, sacrifice and martyrs. Offering oil out of the US SPR to the rest of the world is biting, not fully yet but it’s coming. And of course everyone knew that Drill Baby Drill was never a thing.
