Of course mate. I’m not inside the dressing room, and so, everything I say is a subjective, personal feeling, nothing more.
If AS was capable of inspiring the players the way Jurgen did, we wouldn’t see the arse drop out the players so regularly over the last weeks…
You don’t have to add anything to it.
If you’re happy with the slow, ponderous sideways and backwards shite we’ve served up since March that’s fine.
It wasn’t the same during that time.
And quality football consists of all kinds of passes; short, long, vertical, sideways, backwards, switching sides, mixing being both direct and patient.
Endo is a little limited but the one certainty is, put him on the pitch and he gives 100%.How many did against Forest?
The other concerning thing about the way we are just now is that most of us can see that Slot seems to have some favourites, given that most players are human,it must be clear to those out of favour and what would that do to their morale, sending players out feeling 10 ft tall is a good start,I know someone else said that, it does work.
I actually don’t think effort is our problem. Listened to Rory Smith earlier and he says from the feeling he got watching Liverpool live this season, he also doesn’t think effort is our issue. Martinez tonight said that he thinks it’s not technical, tactical or physical, but psychological. Though of course, I don’t expect him to be fully honest, but rather try and be nice/complimentary.
Sure, we need to win more duels. How do we do that, well it first starts by being more together, hunting in packs, collectivelly closer to our opponents. And yes, then winning more individual battles. The lack of press and then the lack of organization if our press doesn’t work is frightening at times. How we conceded that corner ahead of the first goal is just Liverpool without the ball in a nutshell this season.
Maybe we do lack that final bit, like when Lijnders used to describe it as “we don’t press to force mistakes or direction, but to literally steal the ball”.
I do wonder what the stats show how was our pre-season like in terms of pure physical numbers. Knowing that some players arrived relatively late (Wirtz, Ekitike), almost too late (Isak) or some never did (Guehi).
But there’s always the tendency in these times to go full Fabian Delph with basics, that the answer to everything is that we’re not trying enough and we need to run more.
@Zoran you quote Martinez and the in the next paragraph completely contradict him.
Sure there’s a psychological factor there however I feel it can be labelled under simple confusion. Which of course leads to lack of confidence.
Nothing wrong with saying what Martinez thinks however would be useful to also say you don’t feel the same rather than just giving an example of that. ![]()
I didn’t say I agree with (all of) it, also said that I don’t expect coaches to be 100% honest, even if it’s not about their own teams.
For me there are absolutely tactical issues (ever since pre-season), potentially physical (I can’t tell that for sure without stats, which we don’t have). Psychological is always important, I also cannot tell that without knowing how the players are on the inside.
But I got where he’s coming from.
It’s easy to ‘see’ that tactical and technical issues can lead to psychological problems over time. A sort of depression setting in.
Last season a shocking thing, for me, was when Slot said 'they are not playing how I want them too
This to me was very telling and really not geared to preventing psychological problems setting in.
However it all stemmed from tactical and technical problems on the pitch.
That ‘statement’ I feel should be the point of concentration on Slots suitability. If his thinking is still the same then we are in deep shit imo.
The other thing to remember about Endo is that he is he turns 33 soon. When Klopp bought him he was a stopgap short term option, and that was two and a half years ago.
I thought he did pretty well for Klopp in his final season, but he was already at the kind of age where you see a decline then.
His thinking is not the same, because we tried to evolve on last season and improve things. We were well organized last season, but it was obvious we’ll need to change a few things in order to reach more control and domination.
Perhaps we’ve gone a step too far with the moves this summer, even with the Jota tragedy in mind. And that then goes to the transfer team, not only Slot.
But now, the coaching staff really have to bring back stability and forget about the long term issues we might have with the moves we’ve made.

That’s just ridiculous. Gravenberch is better, Gravenberch is fit, hence Endo never plays.
That’s something you’d expect to hear from somebody playing Football Manager.
Getting sacked in 42 hours anyway.
“When I used him (Endo) as a right-back against Bournemouth, I got criticised”

You have a lot of other teams with players who played more or less the same amount Endo played last season or so far this season, so…
It’s nothing weird.
No one said that it was weird.
What then, a different choice of words from Slot to make the same point?
Knowing that he cannot be 100% blunt and say it’s because of (a lack of) quality.

Slot doesnt come across very well with his responses to the questions in that report,
Yes? Endo must be overjoyed by the explanation. Form, opposition, physical condition don’t come into it, just the fact that Gravenberch is better and is fit enough to play.
Maybe, he’s being sarcastic with his answer and the barb that he was criticised for playing Endo at RB. But seeing how he has managed the squad, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s being forthright and this is actually his process to determine who gets to play.
