Welcome to Liverpool, Andoni Iraola!

Regarding your question re Alonso.

Thought he should be in the equation, however, his Leverkusen team played more stylistically to Slot, a better version though.

On the flip side his setup at Madrid was a pressing style, but players didn’t like the hard work.

All this is secondhand as I never really watched either team.

If you asked me 4 weeks ago I wanted Alonso.

I feel it is more down to style that we are going for Iraola as it would get the Anfield crowd more involved.

Coach possibly Alonso, managing aspect maybe Iraola.

Saying that what Iraola has done at Bournemouth is above what Alonso did at Leverkusen as Bournemouth with everything in consideration should have finished 18th on the size of the club and thats just including Premier League teams, far bigger ones not even in the PL.

I share the same concerns. For all the criticism of Carragher he’s right about the element of risk, but its a calculated one…

And there’s an emotional side of him that should resonate where Slot was lacking…Plus I see parallels between his Bilbao roots and Liverpool..

His football is more nuanced than this heavy metal PR push would suggest and I just hope peeps do not get impatient…

these stupid opinions questioning weather his football is sustainable in the PL with LFC playing more games per week than bournmouth. do these fuckers know that like klopp Iraola made adjustments so his team does not burn out, thus the no losses since january (no losses in their final 18 games) and a 6th position finish…they talk like the man is an idiot and has never managed a PL team before

Nevertheless, one cannot forget seeing many of his injured players sitting in the box in two parallel lines, overlooking the pitch at Bournemouth during one or two of the matches that were broadcast. That image seared into many minds.

Problem I find with all football writing, there must be writing, even when there are no issues.

There’s no guarantees that Andoni Iraola will be successful at Liverpool, but isn’t it nice to feel excited again about football!

Have to leave this here, he already has a song :joy:

If it hasn’t been done at previous clubs, then surely the Fans have to make a song to him using the music Lola by the Kinks!!

Dont know that much about him but getting Bournemouth to that position is a very good achievement.

I am a little concerned his team is focused on pressing a little too much and over focuses that rather than playing with the ball and progressing, but it´s only based on the constant emphasis in what people say.

A little excited to see what he can do.

Edit
He speaks incredibly fast—that’s going to be a massive adjustment for me at first, since English isn’t my native language. I’ll probably have to go back to using subtitles for a while, just like I did initially with Robbo.

Hopefully players respond positively, if not pack your bags.

As Jurgen would say we need players who want to push the train!

Just listened to the Anfield Wrap review show, and there was general positivity and optimism about the appointment, but a few notes of caution based on how Bournemouth performed

  • Iraola has never had to play a consistent three game a week cycle, and has little experience of European football

  • Bournemouth did not have to face teams sitting back, and were able to counter attack into space.

  • Bournemouth’s record defending set pieces was abysmal, pretty much worst in the league

Other than that, which were heavily caveated with the quality of players he’ll have at Liverpool, it’s was a really positive report.
