Welcome to Liverpool, Andoni Iraola!

Humble, thoughtful, passionate about the sport, liked how he highlighted the young players and looking forward to seeing what they offer.

Said all the right things as far as I’m concerned, looking forward to seeing us in action under him.

What do you mean there is still no lean? Iraola is leaning on the couch during the first interview.

A really good initial interview. He comes across as humble but sharp, ambitious but knowing at the same time that he has to earn the right to enjoy his time with the supporters.

He’s the right appointment for us, I’m sure of it. Next season will be interesting! :+1:

So on day one he has already mentioned the existence of Chiesa and the academy so that’s a promising improvement, just needed acknowledgement that Calvin Ramsay might be an option at right back rather than playing Szobo or Jones out of position for the trifecta

So our knew coach is so clueless he doesn’t know what position he’s been hired for?

Tony out!

We won the league cup with Klopp’s Kids. Now we’re going to see Andoni’s apprentices storm pre-season and make a name for themselves

He’s not wearing all black :open_mouth:

If he’s put on the new kit, it would look as if he’s wearing pyjamas, lying down on the couch and ready to watch some TV.

Yep, hence pointing it out.

Not sure how well known Christy is outside of Ireland, but loads of the Kop songs have Irish roots so…

Was just about to post the same, he comes across as genuine and I feel/hope he will be a success for us and gets us!

Wouldn’t Ramsay turning out to be a good right back be something lol

The transcripts don’t really do the interview justice. You have to watch the video to realise how well he comes across. He did remind me of Klopp in some ways, but in his own distinctive manner.

So far, so good.

There’s just a feeling that he gets it. Something Slot never really seemed to put across. He got a lot of grace at the start for being his own man and not trying to be Klopp. In hindsight he maybe wasn’t that bothered about making an emotional connection, or aware of the importance

That’s the first test passed. Welcome Andoni - keep thinking like that and we’ll be sound

I agree that this would give the academy players a new lease of life and a genuine opportunity to prove themselves. Liverpool have plenty of quality coming through the ranks.
Players like James McConnell showed what they can do under Jürgen Klopp, especially during that run to the League Cup Final. He looked outstanding at times and is a very capable defensive midfielder.
Hopefully Stefan Bajčetić can come back and stay fit, because he has a lot of potential. I know injuries have disrupted his progress, but he’s another player who could feel like a new signing if he gets a full season under his belt.
Then there are players like Jayden Danns, who has also had injury problems, and Wright who has been scoring goals regularly at youth level and is a good presser of the ball. These are exactly the types of players that deserve a chance to show what they can do.
What Liverpool need is a coach who is willing to look at these players properly and integrate them into the first-team squad when they are ready. The academy continues to produce talented footballers, and there is no reason why some of them can’t make the step up.
Hopefully Andiola gets the opportunity in pre-season to assess these youngsters closely. If even one or two of them emerge as genuine first-team options, Liverpool could uncover a few gems who help strengthen the squad next season without needing to spend heavily in the transfer market.
