I read an article this morning that suggested Dom has played mostly on the wing recently, and that sent a little shiver down my spine. I just have that tiny little pocket of doubt in my mind that Salah could be on his way out and we are doing the usual of buying before selling, especially for what is pretty significant money to be buying a player for. I really hope that stays as a tiny little doubt in my mind.

Had that exact same thought which is still plays in the back of my mind tbh, he is a player that tends to drift wide on that right side…especially last season, it really wouldn’t surprise me if Mo was on his way out but on the flip side I don’t think we would’ve signed someone like Dom to replace Mo as that right forward so I’m more leaning towards this being the squad we’ll rock with next season possibly even with 1 or 2 more additions…which would really be the first time FSG have put their money where their mouth is to shut up many out there, myself included.

The right sided 8 has been playing ‘wide’ for us for ages, so Szoboslai suits that perfectly, whether it’s the new box system or the old 433.

Leipzig rarely play with proper wingers, they mostly use a 4-2-2-2 version of 4-4-2. Having combining players off those narrow sides like Szoboszlai, Olmo and Forsberg. They did have certain issues at RB last season, played some players out of position there, that’s maybe why it was important for them to have Szobo doing a lot of work on that side.
Our dynamic might be the one where Szobo plays a bit higher at RCM than Mac at LCM (even in the box formation, they don’t have to be equally high when we’re attacking), just as Salah plays a bit higher than our left sided attacker (whoever it is on the day). First, they all need to prove they can get into out XI and make it better/improve us again. Then, yeah, we’ll see what’s the situation whenever Mo leaves, which I doubt will be this summer.

Seems to be very much the role Elliott struggled at times with.
Seems like Elliott will be used elsewhere now or as cover.
I think if we’re replacing Salah we’d buy direct replacement, this signing allows us to use Dominik as cover.

When Mo’s not available for shirt removing duties, Dom can replace him with no appreciable loss of quality.
