30,5ºC in the house 
at midday. That’s the hottest it’s been this year so far, except when I’ve opened the windows at night and let hot air in.
Btw the hottest time of the day is yet to come (about 16hr) and the temperature will not drop much during the night. Went to bed at 03hr last night with the windows and doors open, until I closed them, it was 29ºC.

I went to see the World’s Largest Rubber Duck today, and I was bitterly disappointed. It’s here for 
250 , a massive cull for Buffalo, by all accounts. A deserving city, no doubt, but they’ve stuck it on a shitty patch of grass next to the fucking “skyway”. I assumed it would be in the water (like every other city this monstrosity “visits”), but not so in Buffalo.
Apparently it’s been left there, instead of the canal, so people can get selfies from all angles.
You can never get too many selfies next to the anus of a 60ft inflatable duck.
I hope they stick it in the Niagara. I’d love to see this smug prick go over the falls.

Just went to the July 4th parade here in Carmel, IN. Usually I don’t go to that sort of thing, not my bag, but our friends had their daughter marching in it with the high school marching band. They are good, as far as these things go, and have been chosen to go to the Rose Bowl game in Los Angeles, in January.
Anyway, kudos to The Smoking Pastor - a former clergy man, who now smokes brisket and such on a huge trailer/smoker he takes to events and so on. He gives loads of delicious food away to deserving causes. Today he was giving away free breakfast burritos with smoked brisket on them, just make a donation to a local charity he was supporting. Win-win.
The morning kicked off with that, then some sort of fighter jet flying over (I think an F-16, it was loud) then the parade. We pulled up lawn chairs and sat under a large tree in the shade. Fairly civilized.
Came home, quick shower to cool off, now looking forward to the World Cup games before fireworks tonight. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

At Manchester airport again. On the way back to Berlin. Mum has stabilised in her nursing home. Now in a state of suspended animation, unable to move or even hold a fork, she sleeps 80% of the day and gives rambling monologues when awake. It’s not a life I could stand, but at least she’s got over the delirium of last year.
I’m heading home to three weeks of frantic packing before our move to Australia. Who the fuck embarks on such a major life change at my age? I am clearly insane.

We had the funeral service for my mother-in-law today. We took a boat out to the Baltic, the captain gave a brief eulogy, and the casket containing the ashes was lowered into the sea. It was surprisingly moving.
We are currently in a holiday apartment in Priwall, just over from Travemünde. My wife and her mother lived there in the 1970s. At the time it was something of an oddity: a peninsula of West Germany cut off from the rest of the country by the border with the DDR. My wife says it has changed beyond all recognition.
Incidentally, I had to laugh at the Swedish ferry leaving harbour at the time. A gigantic vessel called the Tinker Bell: complete with a picture of the Disney fairy character on the side. So much for these butch viking types.

Started house hunting.
Daunting thought at my age, but needs must.
Got a pretty tight timeline for it to happen too.
Criteria is going to make it even more difficult.
Area must be completely uninhabited.
No TV signal.
No WiFi availability.
Must have a vineyard in close proximity.

South America could be a good bet - Chile, Argentina or maybe Uruguay. Outside bet, Romania, Bulgaria or Albania… With the temperatures nowadays, and closer to home (at a guess), Aberdeenshire may work out soon!
Is it worse than usual? I’m not sure if this is related to the El Niño.

I think the rainfall in the last few days was a bit severe due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal. But, Dhaka drowns after every major rainfall.
