And I’ll fight anyone that says otherwise

Every Christmas morning the family would all gather on the stairs before going into the Livingroom to open presents, but my mum would always check to see if Santa wasnt still in the room delivering presents.

each year she would play the same trick…

she’d open the living room door, peak in then say, ā€˜Oh no, Santa didnt come!’

1 year, my younger sister (maybe 8 or 9 years old) burst out crying then got hysterical and wouldn’t calm.
we all had to go back to bed until she calmed down, as we all had to open our presents together.

it took her ages to calm down, i was fucking raging!

the next Christmas, she opened a present from Santa that was in her Santa sack and got so excited by the gift (it was the thing she really wanted) she threw up over her other presents that were lying on the floor!

once again she was sent back to her room to calm down!

i miss those times…

I’d like to hear your sister’s side of the story.

One year…my auntie was told if she didn’t behave she would get a bag of coal for Christmas…she didn’t behave…and yes she got the inevitable bag of coal…this threat stretched out till noon…and her pressies appeared under the dining table…sounds harsh, but this was the 1940’s…

I looked it up, a cutlet of pork fried like KFC with rice and a curry sauce. Now that I could swallow just keep the miso away.

My Gran made the most delicious Christmas pudding you could imagine. How I miss that!

I can’t believe. There are no good programmes on the telly. :frowning:
All i am doing is changing the channel.

I listen to music with the news channel on mute. If something new or interesting pops up I turn the music down and take off mute. Of course that’s very rare as I prefer the music and they repeat the same stories all day.
Later in the evening I’ll try and find something on Netflix that I feel I might enjoy. My memory is soo bad that often I rewatch the same films/programs without even realising until a specific scene comes up and I think ā€˜shit I’ve seen this before’ then if it’s rubbish I put some vinyl on or if it’s good I continue watching to the end.
It’s not bad having a poor memory there’s lots of films I can rewatch over and over again :joy:.

Haven’t you got a decent Asian supermarket near you ?

What’s everyone eating ?

The missus is doing a vegan wild mushroom stuffing tonight. (Not really stuffing but it’s baked into a fesive wreath. Alongside that we are having a turkey farcie with morilles and armagnac and new minted potatoes.

Tomorrow it’s my turn. Lunch is Spanish monkfish stew with chorizo and roasted peppers.

Dinner : Chicken biryani.

Not in the UK it doesn’t. ( In France it’s lamentable. In fifteen years I’ve had onedecent meal in a restaurant.)

Not that I know of.

Christmas Eve brunch here with the family in a few minutes, lovely stuff. Going to church later - there’s something about the candlelight ceremony, and all the Christmas trees and carols that just seems so festive and fitting.

After that we’ll have some eats and treats before a relaxing Christmas Day tomorrow with just the core family. I’ll be cooking a beef rib roast and we’ll probably be eating too much and drinking a little too much, but there you go.

It was cold here recently, with lots of snow, but now it has warmed up and is all melted. It will snow again at some point, but unfortunately not over Christmas.

Merry Christmas to everyone on here

It is great walking around in my PJs and dressing gown all day instead of peeling the spuds and vegetables.

An entire box of Minature Heroes…

Tonight we are having potato salad and Bockwurst. Cornflakes with Baileys for breakfast tomorrow and probably down to frozen pizza by teatime.

My eldest son is working in the restaurant for the next three days, so we said we would do Christmas dinner next week.

Just had a lovely brunch - usual sort of stuff bacon, egg, sausage, hash browns, waffles (I didn’t eat those) that sort of thing. It is really nice with the kids being home. Lots of banter and stories around the table. When they were younger they would fight, but they love each other really, and it’s a joy to see them interact after not seeing each other in a while.

Sipping on a mimosa/bucks fizz. Mrs ROTW wrapping presents and in her element remembering everyone. She’s a gift-giver. It’s not that I’m a Scrooge especially, but she gets stuck in, neighbor kids, staff kids at work, as well as relatives and all the usual suspects.

Later on we’ll do charcuterie. I bought some nice cheeses and prosciutto and other bits. We have lots of wine and other drinks to keep us going. I’ll spread my wings and try a few cocktails over the holidays to see if we can discover something unexpected. The go to is a gin and tonic, or I might sip on some bourbon, but we like to try new things.

Tomorrow, Christmas Day, will be wall to wall food (it’s silly really, but it’s what we do). The main meal will be a beef rib roast. I will cake it in a herb and butter crust and roast it on top of garlic and a few root vegetables, just to lift it. Medium rare, with horse radish and au jus. I miss English roast dinners and Mrs ROTW is a dab hand at Yorkshire pudding, and we’ll have various veggies, including roast potatoes - which they don’t really do in America, and all the trimmings.

We like seafood and have shrimp and salmon, but that will probably bleed over into Boxing Day as it’s too much. For some reason, even though it’s only a few days we’ll be off, we seem to have gone mad and prepared for a couple of weeks.

The main blessing of all of this is family. I miss my family in England and we’ll be catching up on the phone or FaceTime I’m sure. We are nearly-empty-nesters, with college kids, and the best bit of all is having them home and hearing about their adventures. Our son rescued a stray dog - as you do - when he was making the 9 hour drive home from his college. He got it to the local Sheriff who was thankful and said he would try to find the owners.

When in England my Mum always had Heart Radio on in the car. I know it well.
I’ve been listening to the local students channel today ā€˜MIX’. There’s very little talking or publicity they just play music. The only problem I have with it is they don’t even tell you what your listening to so when you hear something you like but don’t know you can not find it.
