That’s not a dish, it’s a piece of meat.
It would be like me saying try Charolais, Aberdeen Angus or Taureau de Camargue.
What about agneau des prƩs salƩs?

I know the French just throw cheese on it if it tastes shit however there’s some decent dishes. Cassoulet, boeuf bourguignon, blanket de veau and sandwich jambon beurre.

I call Japanese food the French food of the East. thinks too highly of itself.

Even the soja sauce that we get here tastes shit. You have to find one made on the continent and the way things are in supermarkets that’s getting harder and harder.

Edit: I couldn’t be sure it’s Japanese. I think they are perhaps riding on a wave carried by the sushi craze.
The French are full of yet soon few of them can cook even the classic dishes in a decent manner. Thankfully they have some nice cheese :cheese_wedge: yet even that is becoming rare, have to go to specialist shops and markets for the good stuff and pay for it.

Generally I frown on all food culture that likes to tell me how to eat my food after I paid for them. And gets offended if I don’t follow it.

The Japanese food in Europe tastes really strange to be fair. Unlike Indian food, it’s one of those that got really bad after being exported

I hate it. I also don’t like sausages.

I do like Marmite though.

Ahh! That would explain it. I still wouldn’t go to Japan because of that. Noway could I take that culinary risk.

We can get the Kikkoman brand (which is good for me…) quite easily here - and the Paris store is quite good for all things from the far East… at least my way

I just got reminded when I was in Brazil, which had the largest Japanese diaspora outside of Japan, I was brought to the best ramen restaurant according to the locals in Sao Paulo. It was worse than instant noodles in Asia.

The Indian food in Europe tastes pretty bland too

To be fair they are mostly produced in Europe now, the Netherlands, Kikkoman and Suzi Wan for example, which are the major brands found in supermarkets.

It’s probably this, Europeans trying to produce foreign foods with under paid staff with no knowledge or by just chucking stuff in a big vat :bucket:.

My fave is negitoro donburi, which is a large bowl of rice topped with raw mashed tuna (toro), chopped leeks (negi), some nori (the ā€˜seaweed’ like stuff that you get with sushi), a splash or two of soy sauce and as much wasabi as you can handle. Mix it all together and tuck in.

We’ll be sitting down to some sushi and chips just as soon as the birthday girl (younger daughter) gets home. After all, we are a sushi and chips family.

Addendum: Kikkoman is Japanese.

There’s a thread for festivals and celebrations that is usually used for this kind of thing.
