What's happening?

From the Batman Wiki:

" After witnessing the murders of circus acrobats called the Flying Graysons, Wayne takes in the couple’s son Dick Grayson. The boy quickly joined him in his crusade as his sidekick Robin to help capture the criminal responsible for his parents’ murder"

Big day for me, well evening, my son and grandson are coming for réveillon.
So I’ve already prepared the mousse au chocolate :chocolate_bar: it’s setting in the fridge. Beating egg whites has numbed my arm.
On the menu, chicken ‘nuggets’ for the kid. Faux filet for us big uns. Chips (oven), peas and carrots.
Fondant au chocolate :chocolate_bar: with English custard or silly cream from an aerosol (like shaving foam but tastes better) can also be used as topping on the mousse.
All washed down with a scotch, a bottle of Cairanne and/or Diablo (Chilienne wine) and coke for the kid and softies who put such stuff in whisky.
If my arm holds out I might make some vanilla marshmallow for my grandson who has a chocolate :chocolate_bar: making set. After this morning that seems unlikely arm is now aching .

I should have looked that up. My introduction to Batman was the camp 1960s TV series, so it came as a surprise when I discovered it was meant to be a dark and moody thing inspired by classic heroes.

I have to say the Nolan films are probably the best I’ve seen. I think they are just well made cinema, even when you strip away the superhero stuff, which is minimal anyway. Batman doesn’t have superpowers, he is a techno-vigilante.

Yes, I’m sure that was the same for lots of us, long before the origins of the story were revisited in more recent years.

I had a text from my wife asking if I could get the “wine and crap for tonight”.

Well I bought a couple of bottles of Riesling, but I don’t know what she wanted for nibbles, so I bought a variety of crisps and dips.

Anyway, she just came home and asked me where the fish was. Apparently, it was meant to say “carp”.

I thought autocorrect was meant to stop that. Probably just as well she didn’t want me to get duck.

Gearing up for New Year’s Eve. Little bit of a party at my house later. The theme is, er, Stranger Things. Blame our 22 year old daughter for that. There will be decoration and cocktails on the theme, and when the finale drops on Netflix later we will be watching. Lots of food on the go, as ever, mostly small plate/appetizer stuff, so lots of variety.

Yesterday I took my son out to get his first suit. It was a nice bonding thing for father-son. He has a couple of formal things at college coming up and needed a suit. Got a couple of nice shirts and shoes too. Wasn’t a super expensive suit, but as a young man who is fit and athletic, he looks 10x better than I look even if I wear a nicer suit :joy:

Two hours to go. Watching random fireworks, getting reasonably sozzled on a gin with the wife, playing 2010’s music and reading a manual on pitch preparation. The quest for knowledge never ceases :joy:

Wife’s not so happy with the reading up on pitch prep, though. The shit I have to deal with…

Just rent suits. Saves a lot of money on kilts, sporans … however no need for pants which saves on washing.

Was at the local shrine 12 hours ago and prayed / wished for world peace and us winning the CL.

I think one of those has a chance of coming true.
