Can I request you wish that Liverpool win all their games in 2026?
Your wish for my wish is my command. Although I think the Shinto gods couldnāt give a toss about footy.
Think againā¦
Taxis drive through the torii āgatesā! Sacrilegious! No wonder the Shinto gods donāt give a toss about footy.
Is the reason they donāt care about FOOTball because they are SHINto gods?
I canāt believe it
. I watched the Dark Knight Rises and fell asleep the last flippin 20 minutes.
Now, i have to find out what happened in the end on catch up ![]()
I thought the storyline was really good. I havenāt watched the first two films with Bale in though.
I did enjoy all three of those films. But while theyāre still good thereās something about Bale as Batman and Bruce Wayne that bugs me these days.
I dont think any film has quite nailed both.
Let the New Year debate begin.
The only other Batman films i watched was the George Clooney one as I like him and it had the worst reviews
and the other one with Val Kilmer. I thought that was good and abit dark.
Bale did well and didnāt realise Tom Hardy was the baddie. This story was abit dark too. I need to watch the first two to connect the dots with the final film i watched. I
You did well Maria.
Itās 2hrs 44mins. These days I have to find films no longer than 1hr 30mins if itās 1hr 39mins I miss the last 9 mins, which I have come to the conclusion isnāt worth catching up on ![]()
.
I was really into the film. I think i was tired as i got up early that morning.
Like you Flobs, i an finding it hard to stay awake late at night.
All the good films are long though. I found Oppenheimer too long. I have to watch a long film in two sittings.
The Adam West TV version did a lot of ādamageā to what Batman really is as a character. Firstly he is supposed to be a super smart detective with only one purpose in life. Secondly, he is a broken nut job with anger management issues. He is essentially a darker, more morally restrained version of the Joker, who is completely unhinged and twisted with zero boundaries.
I think weāve only seen glimpses in some of the films out there.
I remember that tv series with Adam West. Yes, you are right, he was abit dark and twisted but in a good way.
I really wanted him to marry Catwoman so they could live happily ever after.
I think Catwoman would have scratched Batmanās eyes out.
Also, I would have liked abit more character development on Robin.
Yes, Catwoman ![]()
Both actresses who portrayed her (Julie Newmar and Eartha Kitt) had quite an effect on me as a young boy, even though I didnāt fully recognise it at the time. ![]()
That TV series was obviously played for laughs, so the overall character development was fairly minimal. Still, it remains a bit of a āclassicā in its own way with Burgess Meredithās Penguin probably my favourite adversary.
Not really for me. He was the perfect hero and alter ego in that series. Meanwhile in the graphic novels and comics he is a seriously screwed up individual. Always haunted by his tumble into the cave and the death of his parents, and not in a good way.
PS those novels are well worth reading imo.
Isnāt the running theme over Robin that he has not a character?
Just opened a Christmas present from a neighbor. Itās a bottle of Kahlua and a big mug. Mrs ROTW always does a hot chocolate bar over the holidays, mostly for any kids who are swinging by. Day off, freezing outside, just made a hot chocolate with a healthy splash of Kahlua while me and the lad get ready to watch some footy. Simple pleasures, lovely.
Made pizza today and itāll be raclette tomorrow - a staple for New Yearās Eve. Been cold where I am in deep Swabish land but still went for a couple of walks as it was sunny and not windy.
Beer in hand, the kids are trapped in TV land and Iāll be trying to catch a game on a screen shortly.
Wishing all a nice and peaceful New Year.
This place is full of Germans and Aussies.
Thatās why I feel at home here.
Flobs,
As far as I can remember, I donāt remember what Robin was when he wasnāt hanging around with Batman or how he met Batman. Was he a student or something?
Robin was introduced to the comics became they thought it didnāt appeal enough to younger readers. I think the inspiration was Robin Hood.
In the stories, he was a legal ward of Bruce Wayne. I think he was introduced in a story and adopted by Batman at the end.
