When does a great summer become too much change?

Yeah I think Chiesa will now probably stay and if he is unhappy and Italy somehow get to the World Cup we will loan him out in Jan.

Only once Mo is back from the AFCON though.

Well they’ve moved it earlier haven’t they so that helps.

A striker and a central defender both seem very likely. Probably Ekitike and Guehi, although there has been some noise around Lukeba.

Beyond that we might do one more, I suppose we’re all watching what happens with outgoing. With Musiala out I could see Bayern Munich pushing hard for Diaz (I know slightly different positions, but they can shuffle the pack).

I think its at the stage noq where Bayern are just told to get lost irrespective of any fee.

I believe too much change is already being forced on us and thus it might be better to get it all over with this season.

Thus to me, fear of change should not be the reason we don’t change.

Given the circumstances, I’d definitely pull the plug on a move for Diaz. If we get a bumper offer for Nunez, maybe, but only if there is an alternative which reinforces us. Otherwise, I’d keep him around too.

Stability is always key. Too much change isn’t good.

Yeah wouldn’t sell Diaz without a huge offer (that majority funds Isak, for example). Darwin needs to go however and keeping him another season will not help.

Losing Diogo in the way we have is going to have a huge affect on the players. We don’t know how they are going to react/cope with the loss of someone so close to them. Some of the lads could well have a period of feeling down during the year so for that reason I think it’s probably a good thing to add another player or two.

4 changes to starting lineup so far?

Frim.
Kirk.
Wirtz.
Diaz is the 4th.

Do you mean Isak?

As I wrote in the Diaz thread, it’s much. 40% of the open field players. With Isak coming in, it could become 50%.

Also can’t believe (but should not be surprised) that some are now worried we are making too many changes.

Like we can never get the sweet spot. Not enough..too many…wtf do we want

Nope, whomever takes over from Diaz. Might be hugo, or might be Wirtz, so that would be 3 changes to starting lineup.

Odd way to list it.

Also Kirk…

But improvements and possible system changes mean its not all bad. Spine is there, the team won’t fall apart.

Well this was being discussed over a month ago when we had 3 definite signings. We now have 1 more, and 1 potential that will definitely without a doubt be a starter. So 5 new players starting at the same time would be too many, potentially. The changes to the squad is a totally different story.

For the record, I wasn’t concerned at all last summer, when it turned out that Slot would inherit Klopp’s team without any further change. Stability was key, and it played out wonderfully.

Now, it’s the contrary, the first team is shuffled, and to be honest, nobody knows how it will turn out. So, some measured concern is allowed I think.

Here is what I see as a potential starting lineup, so currently 3 changes.

            Wirtz Gakpo Mo

              Mac Grav Dom

         Kirk Konate VVD Frim

                Alisson

Maybe we keep it at 3 even with a Isak signing.

            Gakpo Isak Mo

                 Wirtz

               Mac Grav

         Kirk Konate VVD Frim

                Alisson

It’s a squad game. None of the lads we’ve bought have to start game one and certainly not all of them.

You could easily see just one or two new lads start against Bournemouth as we ease players in. By the time we’re winning the Champions League final in May it could well be six.
