I wasn’t pointing to you or anyone. Just the general observation that its hard to keep everyone happy
Re the shuffle…i think they’re largely positive changes. Slot is not Klopp and will want to mould the team in his vision. Ofcourse, Diaz going is a blow and not one i wanted, but its also the right move for all parties
Even when shuffled, we come out with Ali, Virgil, Ibou, Bradley, Macca, Gravenberch, Szobozlai, Jones, Mo, and Gakpo there.
Add to that, the players coming in have good support from friends and countrymen…Frimpongs got his Dutch pals to keep him straight, Witrz has Frimpong about. Kerkez has his National captain there. Ekitike can see eye to eye with Virgil and Ibou. I also take comfort from Edward’s being around and the general approach the club has re. putting a lot into ensuring incoming players fit into the culture of the club.
I guess I’m just more optimistic that not right now…albeit i am concerned about CB.
I like the changes we have made. It seems a lot but it is what it is. Every one of them is for a good reason, and it will average out in subsequent windows.
Kerkez for Robbo? Nobody defeats time. Good change and necessary.
Frimpong for Trent? Trent had eyes for Madrid. Frimpong is about the best move we could have made.
Ekitike for Jota? Tragedy forced our hand. Ekitike looks to be an exciting player.
Diaz out? We offered him a new deal and he valued himself more highly than we did. Best outcome all round to allow an unsettled player to go. We will reinvest the dough in an exciting player who wants to be here.
If we end up signing Guehi for Quansah, bring it on. Quansah might get to elite status and I love that we have a buy-back. He won’t get there on our bench and needs to play.
If we end up signing Isak for Nunez, bring it on.
Yes, lots of change, but I’m comfortable with it. Every move we are making is solid.
Edit
I didn’t say anything about Wirtz. That lad has every chance of being the best of the bunch, even if we sign Isak. Vision, touch, passing, dribbling, goals, assists. I think he will end up elevating the level and the pattern of play in the final third. Teams do a low block against us, but we will have so many attacking weapons coming at them from all angles that it’s hard to see how they are going to keep us out.
Once the changes crossed a certain point, I believe it was better to make the changes all at once.
Better that than affecting multiple seasons. In this window, most of our competitors have also made big changes so I don’t think we are at a disadvantage.
This could be the same as “we lost too many seniors, I’m worrying about leadership, etc.” when Fabinho, Henderson, Milner, and Keita all left at the same time 2 seasons ago. Then everyone saw the quality upgrade overshadow everything else.
I agree that it takes time to settle into new tactics and with new players, but they are all elite players with years of experience, not rookie kids. Gravenberch settled into his new role after 1-2 weeks; we see every national teams don’t need much time to prepare. I don’t believe it takes months to settle.
I asked the original question because I was on the borderline of concerned. Now becoming worried unless we balance a little more.
A new CB and a Diaz replacement - Rio may get some time but is not the answer. Diaz pretty much always contributed unlike other wingers who fade in and out.
Isaak - while great - seems a luxury.
The core is still about there so if we can get them to gel.
We’ve got Diaz who’s more of a winger , Whereas the likes of Gakpo are inside forwards. People who are more comfortable coming in. I do believe Chiesa can do that role too. He’s more of a inside forward than a winger too but it’s moot if he’s leaving.
But provided he stays , we might just see a major reset in how the squad is playing. As in we would require versatile forwards rather than someone who’s more of a winger providing width and pace. Don’t get me wrong , Diaz has been very good for Liverpool but this seems to be looking like a tactical change.
Is it advisable to do so many changes instantly… Probably not.
Will it be better for the club if we get those changes done for the long run ? Yes.
It might mean some bit of hardship for us. The next season won’t be a stroll (not that any EPL season is) but for me , this is the chance to watch Slot’s vision come to fruition. I’m very excited by that.
Absolutely. Backing up after last season was always going to be very difficult; in many ways it’s actually better having a ‘new group’ to integrate as this becomes the story if/when we’re not miles clear after 13 games and will paradoxically probably make us more competitive in the second half of the season even if we are initially a little off the pace.
We (supporters) and the media would have been patient about the rebuild and integration of new players if we had been top four last season.
Winning the PL and being unlucky in the CL made the coming season one of expectation rather than a time for settling.
A bad result or two will have the questions asked if Slots success was contigent on Klopp’s team and ethos. Failure to win every game 5-0 will have misty eyed reminiscence and Slot will be under pressure. Big money signings hammered by SKY and the in match threads…
However.
I fully believe that we are witnessing the start of something massive.
Agree with the sentiment of these two posts, but the question is always, what is the goal for this season? If the goal is to reinforce the existing team from a position of strength, and attack the league again, then, my feeling is that we are doing a lot of shuffling around, maybe too much.
Yes, with time, the five-six new players brought in will hopefully improve the overall quality, but it will need time to settle them in (Gravenberch adapted wonderfully to his new position, but within a 100% settled team). So, what is our goal for this season? A transitional season, a bit like Klopp’s last one, get CL for next season, and then attack all the trophies in 2026-27 again?
I might be completely wrong, but if we get Isak in, Nunez and Elliot quit the club, and with a new CB coming in as well, it could be too much change in order to seamlessly reproduce our fantastic last season.
Diaz and Trent wanted to leave. Jota tragedy. Any other outgoings weren’t starters. We’ve no choice but to make a number of signings, and it’s great to see they’ve all been quality. I guess you could say Wirtz is the only luxury signing but noone will be complaining about that!
