@mods ban
United are in pole position to sign Liam Delap.
Guess itâs a step up for Delap, considering Ipswich are in 18th in the PL and Man United are 16th.
Thatâs 2 steps.
But why oh why would a player even think about joining this clubâŠ
âI know he cheated on his wife with me, but I can change him. I know it.â
Ruben Amorim has paid for 30 of his Manchester United backroom staff to take their families to next weekâs Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain, after being told by the club that his coaches, physios and support team would have to pay for their own tickets, sources have told ESPN.
United will play Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on May 21 with the prize of Europa League glory accompanied by a place in next seasonâs Champions League for the victors.
However, the United hierarchy are continuing with a raft of cost-cutting measures that includes axing up to 200 jobs at Old Trafford this summer, and have made two tickets for Bilbao available for staff to purchase rather than fund a complimentary trip to the final.
In contrast, Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain confirmed last week that they would pay for 600 members of staff to attend their game against Inter Milan in Munich on May 31.
Sources have told ESPN that United have taken their decision in order to ensure that supporters are able to purchase as many tickets as possible from the clubâs 15,000 allocation for the game at Estadio San MamĂ©s.
Players have only been allocated two tickets each while family members and friends will not have their travel costs covered.
But sources have said that Amorim, who brought several members of his Sporting CP staff to Old Trafford when he took charge of United last November, has stepped in to pay for his support team, this includes low-paid members of staff, as a reward and recognition for their contribution and commitment during a difficult six months at the club.
Sources have said that when it was made clear to Amorim that the club would not pay for tickets for his coaches and staff, he told the United hierarchy that he would fund the cost to ensure that every member could take up to two friends or family.
Poverty club thatâs worth billions and cuts corners in all the wrong places. Good on Amorim for stepping up. Watch how these idiots will now spend hundreds of millions in the transfer market on substandard talent.
Thatâs the thing, isnât it.
All these cost cutting measures, all this scrimping and saving, pissing off your support structure, and theyâll be happy to throw cash at piss poor players all summer.
I desperately want Spurs to win. Itâs become my season, in the wake of Liverpool smashing everyone senseless.
Hojlund, Zirkzee, Delap.
Train of thought = go figure.
This is going to seem crazy but Iâm more and more confident in Ruben Amorim by the day. His system and the variety of tactics within that structure work. Weâve seen that throughout our European run to the final. Why does it work in Europe and not the premier league? In my opinion, itâs down to time. In Europe we get more of it, and right now the players need it. They havenât yet gotten to the point where they are fully processing and reacting without thought. That will come if we give RA a long enough leash to get his ideas embedded in the players. A full preseason will help massively. We need a good few players in key areas and we need our players to get much fitter. We have an athleticism deficit to work on as well. And of course we desperately need a striker who is ready to lead the line for a top club. I fully believe the top brass at the club knew this was a likely outcome of hiring RA midseason. I think they did it to have time to figure out a road map for the next two windows to revamp the squad. They now who they want to move out and I hope itâs finally time for a pretty decent clearout and overhaul. That may not be feasible financially, but I live in hope. And I will say if you add up all the things that need to go right, it is a LOT which makes it more difficult and longer odds.
The only thing that concerns me is that Spurs arenât going to play a typical European final style. Theyâre going to play the way they do in the league and weâre going to struggle. But, if the club has a plan and they believe in RA the way I do then missing the Champions League may, in the long run, not be the end of the world. Fewer matches next season means more time on the training pitch and that gets RAâs way of playing embedded quicker. We also would get players into the club who truly want to be here and will fight for the club to rise up once more.
This could all just be me coping but I tend to be a positive person and I want to be optimistic about the clubâs future. Iâd rather be optimistic and disappointed if Iâm wrong or delighted if Iâm right than pessimistic and feel âgoodâ about being right.
First replyâŠ
Iâve taken some drugs in my time but these seem the best.
Thinking through what @SBYM would do upon coming to this fork in the road, I would imagine most would rather take cash than tickets.
Credit to him to be fair.
Ratcliffe continues to come across as a tosser. I remember me questioning him taking over on this forum and was told how well he ran his other sports clubs.
Hmm
By who? Their post sounds like a contender for hall of shame
Or just the opposition faced in Europe are much worse than the teams faced in our domestic leagueâŠnot as if they have been facing Barca or Inter every week is it.
Surely, luck Utd have to make decent signings and perform better next season, even if it is all down to pure luck?
Can they really be as poor for another season?
The Europa has depreciated in quality after the increase in number of teams in the UCL.
Coz those suckers will pay him whatever his wage demands are.
I suspect the watering down of the quality in the Europa this season is more due to the fact that none of the big teams from the CL have âdropped downâ. Under the old system, thereâd always be a handful of decent sides joining the Thursday night party.
Thatâs a pretty valid point too. A case should be made that the 8 losers of the 2 legged playoffs find themselves in the europa. Even if it means that the europa league has a smaller group stage format.
Thatâs a decent shout. As the Europa has looked really weak this season.
