Who do you wish to sell

First time for everything I guess

Yeah, let’s get Morton. He’s just had a great year playing regular football. He’ll probably jump at the squad to take Endo’s minutes at Liverpool.

I dunno, buying or selling I have an issue with how Slot uses players.
He has favourites and the ones he doesn’t like don’t see the light of day. This automatically causes overused players and start looking shagged halfway through the season.

You laughed at somebody like Arbeloa?

He was good for us and then went on to be successful at Madrid. Exactly the type we could do with

I laughed at the fact he’s now 43 and I thought you were being sarcastic.

I didn’t notice the ā€œlikeā€

Ah yeah, reading it back, you“re right aha

But yes sorry, a player similar to Arbeloa when we signed him

With Slot gone the only players I would let go are Chiesa and Endo.

I’m inclined to agree.

Only others I’d even consider would be Elliot because I just don’t see where he fits in this team and he deserves to go and play some regular football. And then Mac Allister (or Szoboslai if we got some Godfather type offer) and that would purely be to bring in someone who makes that a more balanced unit overall.

Everyone else stays and we build on top of what we have. We can re-evaluate the likes of Gakpo, Gomez, Tsimikas next summer when we’re not so off kilter and there’s not a world cup to contend with.

Tsimikas’ contract ends next summer anyway. It would surprise me if he got another one.

If we keep Tsimikas around as our back up left back this year, I think we will do it with the intention of letting him leave when his contract runs out at the end of the season. A stop gap measure to put of needing another left back by a year.

I think Gomez’ contract runs out at the end of next season too.

I think they both deserve to be allowed to leave on a free. We wouldn’t get much for either and they’ve both been loyal servants (when fit).

I mean we’ve given away the family jewels for free (Salah, Konate, Trent, Robbo) why not the rest

More of not getting much of a transfer fee.

Outside of Van Dijk, Isak, Wirtz and , I wouldn“t mind if any were sold. Nobody in our squad, I think couldn“t be replaced quite easily.

I“d give Kerkez another year at least, I probably wouldn“t sell Jones for his versatility and he“s a solid local player, and probably not Gomez for utility when fit and we have no cbs, but he“s always injured. Obviously not Ali but he“s always injured too.

I’d definitely keep Kerkez. We’ve got enough changes to make in the squad without adding needing a new first choice left back as a need this summer and Iraola has gotten good performances out of him before.

Jones I might sell though, reluctantly, as I’d prefer he stays. A local lad and good homegrown player who will be at worst a good squad option but he is going into the last year of his contract and seems to want to leave. With Iraola in, I’d be seeing if he would reconsider staying but sell him if he really is set on going and won’t sign a contract.

The complication with Jones is that as club trained player, he would represent an opportunity to bank pure profit.

Yeah that is part of it as well. If the rumors about Inter are true, they’ll not pay what he is worth but as pure profit it is still better then letting him go for free. Especially when we might have Alisson, Gomez and Tsimikas going on frees that summer too.

Edited to add. Maybe Endo as well if we don’t sell this summer and Virgil if we don’t give him another extension.

Forwards- sell Chiesa, add 2-3
Midfield- sell Macca (legs are gone), Endo (give minutes to younger players), keep Jones, add 2
Defense- keep the lot, add a RB who can also play on the left if needed.
GK- consider loaning Mama (he just doesn’t seem ready to be our long term 1st choice)

I do wonder if the discussion around Jones is because he’s made it clear he wouldn’t sign a new deal. He’ll turn 26 next season and whilst he’s seen his minutes continue to increase he’s still not really nailed down a starting role.

He’s probably not getting offered big big money by us to renew given his standing in the squad. This could be his chance to go get a contract, a starting role, and a chance to kick on in his career.

I can imagine him watching Trent make that leap out of his comfort zone being quite a motivator. He’s been here since he was a kid but there’s a big name European club out there showing they want you and it must be tempting to see that as a huge opportunity you might not get again.

I wouldn’t want him to go but we’ve also got to stop letting all these lads leave on free transfers, especially the ones we’ve developed as we know how important they are for the financial rules.

Jones might be looking at McTominay from a season ago and feel he can have the same impact and the same headlines… The lad owes us nothing, and vice-versa… We are entering into the land and hands of the unknown now… Maybe Iraola will do what he thinks is best without any room for sentimentality
