Common enough theme
Wouldnt be much of a forum if people all agreed.
For sure, and I just want to say a thank you to everyone involved in the debate for keeping things civil and debating the points being raised in a constructive way, even if ultimately people still disagreed with each other.
Made a refreshing change not having to delete abuse and insults after a spirited debate ![]()
Me entering the chat then realizing I dont want to disappoint Zinny

Well I was going to say it seems a very good forum for that so far. I haven“t been on long.
Amicable disagreement.
Although that sounds like I could be very wrong ![]()
Szoboszlai has been our best midfielder at times last year and he offers versatility to cover RB which we need since the position is still in flux.
Hate to say it but MacAllister might be the one to go if we need to raise funds with midfield sales. He seemed to be our worst midfielder at times.
My preference is we just add a DM who is strong at clearing the ball and shielding our CBās but can also thread the deep pass when needed to unleash the counter attacking game which I expect Iraola to implement.
Been a while since I said who I“d actually buy and I took the thread a bit OT so here goes
Right back
Guela Doue
Good solid player that passes decent well and can carry the ball. I like the kid at Newcastle too for similar reasons.
Centre back
Don“t know. Schlotterbeck maybe?
I want this player to be entering their prime years.
CM
Adam Wharton
I can“t think of anybody else who passes through the lines as well as him. I think it“s the number 1 skill a CM should have. He gets the ball, turns forward and zips it into the attackers. Wirtz would love it.
DM
Lamine Camara or Chema Andres
Camara a bit more dynamic and Andres reads the game well and is very tidy. I want somebody with proper defensive instincts that will primarily sit in position and allows our other midfielder to play with the ball.
RW
William Gomes
At Porto. Left footed, very tricky, good dribbler, quick, can score and passes well. Looks a big talent.
LW
Yan Diomande
The kid has got it. Quick, can go past players, passes and shoots well, a bit of invention to his game.
Probably not likely now we have MuƱoz (dont we?) but it is what I would have done. Maybe Ez Abde but he got injured. Expensive lot. 400 to 450 million maybe. Bit of a dream.
Ok so no Yan. What other winger(s) should we bring in. I feel like RW is an incredibly tough market right now. Iām not sold on Barcola for various reasonsā¦just have a bad feeling about that one.
Whatās Ryan Kent up to these days?
But seriously, it feels like a significant drop from Diomande to the next set of publicly released targets, most of whom play primarily on the left, like Barcola, anyway.
Iām hoping we start getting linked to Rayan, as at least he is a natural RW, has played in the PL, for our manager, and performed to a high level.
Rayan from Bournemouth.
How many great left-footed/right-sided wingers are there, though? I think that percentage of overall football players who are primarily left-footed was small enough - and now you need to find one who has to take up the spot of one of the greatest right wingers in the history of the game.
@Sweeting, you donāt happen to have an updated list of possible targets now that Diomande is out of reach?
Yeah he hasnāt been at PSG long and arrived with much fanfare, the sort of singing that makes people say they are ruining the french league by taking the best players from their main competitors. But heās never really nailed it there, has been pushed aside by the arrival of a younger version of him (Doue) and now looks to be even further down the list. He is obviously very good and will likely continue to have a good career, he just strikes me as the sort of fall back where youāre going to bring him in as a cheaper option and then spend his entire time hear seeing why he was the cheaper fall back option who left PSG not because he was unlucky or because of a situational thing but because he wasnt quite at the level.
Spending 100m on a player who will the the man is far better than spending 70m on a guy who will never be that guy. SO yeah, Im inclined to say that if we felt we had 100m to spend on Diomande, then go and get Rayan from Bournemouth.
I wonder if we need a third party to bid for him first, just like we did when Jurgen joined us and was reluctant to raid his old club.
I donāt think they necessarily have to be left-footed, but if theyāre coming in to be our top choice to play RW I want it to be their natural side or at the very least the one they have a strong record of playing in.
Another option, given the paucity of the RW market, could be to change tack slightly and make Munoz our RW starter - he has played there fairly often - and instead recruit one of the more readily available LWs to come in and share time with Rio.
Oi, Newcastle!!

Iām not sold on him either. Both will be expensive. Hoping we find a gem, but that is being a bit naive.
Are we looking at any of the Moroccan players? Some of the look the business!
Id buy William Gomes at Porto.
I think heās really talented from what I have seen. I guess Rayan would be an obvious target.
I canāt think of too many other right wingers though. Might be better off buying a top left winger and playing Rio or muƱoz on the right
Well abde is injured and saibari just signed for Bayern
But youād have to think there is another bargain or something in there
