Hughes put Quansah and Elliott out the door purely to balance the books. I don’t believe they actively wanted to leave. Elliott didn’t even have any proper talks with Emery, so how the fuck is that about leaving for playing time? They left because we pushed them out.
No matter how you rate Quansah, seeing a truly homegrown player play for a rival is truly a shame. Thank fuck Richard is fucking off after this summer.
I don’t know how Elliott balances the books when we got fuck all for him going on loan for a year.
Equally, if Quansah was just about raising cash why would you a) negotiate not one but two buy back clauses and apparently a contract with the player should you exercise either one and b) then go out and spend almost the same money on Leoni six weeks later and another great whack on Jacquet another 6 months down the line.
I’d say the fact the manager barely used either of them in the title winning season would suggest he didn’t have either in his plans and we had no plans to sack said manager at the point those sales were made.
He does, since he is a great ball controller and passer. On top of that, his long-range passing will allow us to actually bypass the midfield, which we can no longer do after Trent left.
