I mean, if you tell me we are signing Semenyo and that probably means getting ahead of Ngumoha on one side, challenging Gakpo and pushing Chiesa out of the club soon (inevitable?), then that probably makes sense as an upgrade on paper to start with.
What’s Semenyo’s best position in a big club context is also up for debate. He is two-footed but it takes more than being big, fast and two-footed just to imagine him ‘anywhere’. I guess the main idea would be off the left, able to play elsewhere also. What happens in post-Salah life, who knows.
If it happens, it could be a quality deal isolated from everything else. It could also be adding even more questions to the current ones. It wouldn’t be the first time in football that we need a player for position A and we end up bringing a player for position B, because we judged it as the right move to make at that time.
At this point I’m like who cares about fans knowing what the plan is anyway. That’s not their jobs. I don’t have to know it, it doesn’t have to be transparent.
Still hoping we activate the supposed clause for Olise at the end of the season. He’d be the perfect Salah replacement. However Semenyo and Olise on the wings would be unreal and after the summer window we just had it’s not impossible.
Yeah, I was surprised at the rumours that there is one in the first place.
I think Olise’s going nowhere for now. He’s just in his second season at Bayern, things are going really well, also for France (where he’s also been used as a #10, replacing Griezmann).
Bayern have found top balance, while we have no idea how our season will go, whether we’ll win something or get CL football. Plus, we talk about Salah like we could offload him whenever we decide between now and 2027.
I know Saudi might be a factor there, but some of these ideas are a bit of fantasy right now.
It is a bit perverse to say we need more signings after the summer we’ve had the mess we’re in right now.
But objectivelly, if the club judges we need a few more, then you do it. If it’s a defender, then yeah there’s room for it, but I think Guehi is more likely to arrive on a free.
That said, as things stand, I’m not convinced we’ll do anything in January.
I have no doubts he’ll score loads once he gets fully fit and plays regularly. But it’s pretty clear from what we’ve seen so far that Ekitike will probably also do the same from the number 9 position. I guess Hugo moves left long term if he wants to play every week? At the moment Ekitike starts up top as he deserves it, but in the end no club is paying a record fee for a number 9 so he can get splinters in his ass and maybe play for the last 30 minutes every weekend. Feel for Hugo because he will eventually have to make way I would think. It’s a very odd situation for them both.
I did ask at one stage of Isak was a bit of a diva…is he fit yet? And when will he appear…and lets hope he’s worth it…just saying on what I commented about 2 months ago…
Yes signing Isak is an overkill and unnecessary…until Hugo suffers an injury and the forum will explode into a furry of “we should have foreseen this and not just depend on Chiesa as a backup”
For the clean sheets? And who would score the goals?
Nothing learned from the last 10 years? Defending starts in attack. For example with an fast/tricky LF who can take out 2-3 defenders which also means less pressure on the backline.
