Who would you buy? (Part 2)

I think we’ve all been having this conversation for five years or something. We can laugh at Arsenal’s lack of trophies in that period but they’ve absolutely smashed it with the way they handled the planning of their squad, especially CB roles, and are now starting to reap rewards.

Meanwhile, we have an ageing Van Dijk, abysmal Konate. always injured and now out-of-favour Gomez, as well as an unproven kid who’s done his ACL on his debut. I said a few weeks back that this squad is still a CB, a midfielder and a right winger short but I think we’ll need two new centre backs pretty soon.

Suarez was a nasty little cunt. Still love him though!!!

Not off the pitch he wasn’t. The nasty was reserved for opponents, especially when he was hungry, I don’t think he was a problem off the pitch

True, but an absolute fucking cunt on it!! Legend.

Semenyo. Guehi. As soon as January hits, sign them. Release clause for the former, and if Guehi wants to keep his options open to see what Bosman brings, it’s imperative we sign another central defender.

Keep going with the 4231 we saw today, Salah to transition to rotational/impact sub option, while a new thing gains momentum.

Why bother with moving Salah to rotational role,

I’d sell him in January to a club in the Saudi League,

They’d pay top dollar for him

Mo is not a commodity we can just push to the highest bidder. After all he has achieved he deserves to pick where he wants to finish his career.

Given his age and his current salary,

I fear his options of where to go would be limited

Emily Hughes did it at Wolves. Phil Thompson at Sheffield United. A Liverpool exit for an aged star is rarely done on those sorts of terms

But the club won’t be writing him off yet

If Mo sees the writing on the wall and wants to go in January, I don’t think we will stand in his way. The more likely outcome for me is he will be in and out of the side until AFCON and then when he comes back, it will be more of that, probably with diminishing minutes, before an exit next summer.

I think we will sign Semenyo in January Mo will decrease as the new team takes shape.

The CL is a huge draw and I doubt there will be another top CL team in for Mo after Liverpool, as his legs have gone. If the shorthand grates, he is past peak and I don’t see another top CL team paying his wages for what he is currently bringing on the pitch.

That leads me to think this is MO’s last chance, probably outside chance, to win the CL. If we can find form at the sharp end, anything is possible, so that, more than anything else, is what I think will keep him here for the whole season.

I would imagine personal terms have long been agreed for Saudi Arabia, and the offer remains on the table for him. My best guess is a departure next summer, to the Saudis, and he will be the number one star there as Cristiano Ronaldo winds down. We will allow him to go for a modest fee, say 50M.

If that’s how it pans out I expect the proud warrior to still have some big moments for us between now and then. The fantasy would be if he could somehow lift old Big Ears again before riding off into the sunset with our love and gratitude for all that he has done. Had he come to us earlier, and not taken the Chelsea detour and the two moves that after that, he would be finishing his time at Liverpool as our greatest ever goalscorer.

Fella doesn’t start in 3 games so far this season and in our minds he’s already sold in January to Saudi on our terms.

:joy:

I think he sees out the season and leaves next summer.

Given his form this season and his age and salary,

You think we should keep him till the end of the season or even to the end of his contract?

I don’t expect he will go in the winter transfer. Guys in Africa for 2/3s of it.

Was thinking this the other day, do we as a club still pay his wages during that time ?

Of course we do.

But our contracts are structured, so I’d be more interested to know how it changes if he’s with us, but plays less (that surely affects his wages), out injured (I think that does also, Martin Kelly spoke on it a few days ago as being a policy under FSG, don’t know if that changed much since) or away on international duty.

I think club would be open to that. He offers a lot off the pitch, and can still deliver on the pitch, and his contract only runs for just another 18 months.

However, Mo is someone who wont hang around just for the money so if playing time is substantially reduced he may ask to leave, and i dont think the club would stand in his way.

I think in January we should take poor Trent back on loan as he’s not playing much in Spain…then bench him behind Gomez, Ramsay, Endo and Arne Slot himself for the right back spot.

Yeah, right at the back

I’m sure Mo would have been very happy to sign a new contract after been told. that if he doesnt play he get 50% (example) of his salary!,

and if your out injured your pay drops…

anyway, heres a bit on Mo’s expensive contract.

that a large basic salary…

and a bit on Martin kellys contract offer from 2012,

on the injury clause, the PFA said it was the first time they had heard of anyone having a clause like this…
