Who would you buy? (Part 2)

I do wonder whether Arne underestimated the impact this may have had because of his experiences in Holland where his clubs also had a high turnover of players?

I agree, but I don’t think my list of departures should be very surprising. Every single one of those players appears set to move on within the next couple years with the exception of perhaps Gakpo (who just extended his contract). Jones was linked with a move this winter. Macca has been flirting with Spain for a couple years and I would be very surprised if we extend him on his current form. We generally try to move on from players a year early rather than a year late. Macca fits that bill.

And I didn’t include Robbo as he’s already out of contract this summer.

It’s a lot of change, but the team is being rebuilt for the long term.

I agree. I think after this summer, you’re mostly looking at depth and market opportunities for younger players. Perhaps with a focus on improving the academy.

do we have money for 4 new signing this summer when FFP is factored in, and how much we blew last summer?

specially as we currently have an inflated transfer market where CB’s who have played under 100 games cost around Ā£55M

I am pretty pragmatic, and just because I felt we did too much last year, if we’ve put ourselves in a situation where it is best to make a similar number of moves then so be it. The thing I was concerned about losing with the number of voluntary changes we were making has already been lost now the goal is to find a way to replace it.

However, if another summer like that IS what is determined to be required to enable this manager to compete, then to me that is the definition of him not being the right guy. Too many players will have been shown the door who had shown themselves to be more than good enough and with the numbers involved by the time another season of huge churn is completed then I think it can no longer reasonably be pinned on the players not being good enough.

I don’t think it’s that simple. I looked at that list irrespective of who is managing us, because turnover is coming either way.

Elliott - perhaps a different manager would rate him, but I’m not sure where he’d fit in our midfield currently, especially if he wants to start regularly.
Gakpo - is the issue Slot? Or is it that Gakpo has been found out in England? I’m not sure I blame Slot for his mediocre play.
Salah - his pace is gone. I don’t pin this on Slot.
Macca - He looked great under Slot a year ago, but he’s been very inconsistent this season. Is it a question of fitness? Is that due to deficient training or is he cooked physically? And in any event, if we can sell him for a considerable fee to help fund Wharton or Anderson, wouldn’t that be preferable? Especially as he’s not likely to earn another contract from us at his age.
Jones - he wants out. Maybe a new manager could convince him to stay. I’d be open to that. But I also think Wharton or Anderson would be better suited for us than Jones.
Alisson - we already bought his replacement.
Chiesa - I don’t think he’ll want to stay as a fringe squad player.

F*ck it, let’s go for Vini, who’s got a little more than a year left.

Sell Salah, give Vini a ā€œSalahesqueā€ role on the left side and the love he possibly never got so far at Real and Brazil.

Not sure why we’d turn our nose up at Wharton based on his defensive abilities. We’re playing McAllister and Gravenberch every week and he’s better than those, plus his ability to pass from deep is leagues ahead of Ryan.

Wharton and Anderson would both improve the midfield, either would be good signings. Both would be excellent.

Similar thoughts have been stumbling around my head too.

I think 50 mil for Gakpo is reasonable if the buying club is in the PL, e.g. Newcastle. Id Salah were to leave we’d be lucky to get 50 mil for him. I think they club would be more concerned about getting his wages off the books rather than getting a good fee. No way we would get 70 mil for Macca. If the buying club is Spanish then the most we’d get would be 40 million. Spanish clubs generally don’t have money to spend and tend to go for players out of contract or loans to buy.

Sadly, I think Curtis would have to leave in order to get regular starts. I think we could get more than 40 if the buyer is a PL club, but probably no more than 40 if it’s not. I doubt if we would get 30 for Alisson and 15 for Chiesa. Maybe 30 mil combined.

Also, I think Gomez will leave for pastures new. He nearly joined AC Milan last summer and he’s been linked with them again as well as Bayern Munich.

So lets say:
Elliott - 20M
Gakpo - 50M
Salah - 35M
Macca - 40M
Jones - 50M
Alisson - 20M
Chiesa - 10M
Gomez - 10M

Total = 235 million

As for buying, yes to Anderson but no to Wharton. Instead, maybe the club could look at bringing Tyler Morton back. Apparently he’s valued at 18 mil euros but we would have to pay more than that, say 25 mil GBP.
Yes, to Diomande but maybe no to Olise. I think we will have to buy another CB. If Slot leaves then that could be Quansah, if he doesn’t then maybe Schlotterbeck for a lot og money. Maybe 80/90 mil.

Shopping list:
Anderson - 100,
Morton - 25M
Schlotterbeck - 85M (Assuming that Slot stays and we don’t get Quansah back)

Total = 210 million

We’re in the money!

I hate the way clubs ask teams like us for 70 million for an unproven young centre back.

Then we cannot get 50 for a World Cup winner, who plays at the top level week in, week out!

Not ready to sell Ali yet. Still hands down our best keeper and one of the best in the world

Not sold on Mama. GK spot needs revisiting.

I think it will depend on outgoings. I see three signings and modest or expected departures, or possibly four signings and a bit more coming into the coffers from outgoings. That’s the sort of range I would imagine. Given the money in the game I;d back us for a fourth, but I think we are watching for CL qualification too.

Jacquet
Diomande
Wharton

That’s about 210M. If sales bring in maybe half that amount, I’m sure we will be fine. If sales go a little further, we may be looking at a fourth incoming.

Just guessing, like we all are!

With a bit better luck on injuries we will be more than covered going into next season. Who will be the manager? That’s the question that we are waiting to see answered.

First timer noob getting involved, been a reader for a while on the forum amongst other sites also every now and again. Season has been a bit forgettable up to now, but whatever, as we are still current champions until the next ones haha. Reading through this thread and interesting seeing everyone’s ideas on what it would take to improve a really good squad, and there’s been some legendary sides over the years right.

How do you actually see the start of next season realistically? PSR is supposed to be changing and being replaced by the SCR rules, could affect transfer fees, wages and agents fees longer term.

This would be the starting 11 if I was picking it for the first premier league game of next season.

Coach - Arne Slot

GK - Becker (Legend has 1yr left, hopefully extends and gets to 10yr milestone)

RB - Ola Aina (Experienced 1st team signing)

CB - Konate (Reckon might extend considering the current competition are aged 19 & 20 years old)

CB - Virgil

LB - Kerkez

MID - Gravenberch

MID - McAllister

MID - Szoboszlai

(FSG not gonna entertain offers for any of these 3)

RW - Frimpong

ST - Isak

LW - Wirtz

SUBS

GK - Mamardashvili

RB - Bradley

LB - Robertson (Legend hopefully extends 1yr, happy to be backup)

CB - Leoni

CB - Jacquet

MID - Jones (May request to leave due to status of 3 other midfielders, hopefully extends)

LW - Ngumoha

LW / FOR - Gakpo (Long contract and Slot trusts)

ST - Ekitike

Transfers Out

GK - Davies (Loan)

RB - Ramsay (Sold - Loan)

CB - Gomez (Sold - Loan)

CB - Williams (Released)

MID - Elliott (Sold, maybe Lampard will put an arm around him and take to Coventry. Maybe Wrexham if they fulfil the dream)

MID - Endo (Sold - Loan)

MID - Bajcetic (Sold - Loan)

RW - Salah (Sold - Legend will always be remembered and starts in any greatest ever Reds first team ever!! Completely lost the plot though on that rant, there’s 11 players that start every football match and considering he’s always played in that shirt number then should’ve known better to respect his team mates and employers. Maybe it was an acted out plan all along, everyone was in on it, and the clubs come queuing up this summer? I can see him going to somewhere like Inter before Saudi gets their cheque book out)

FOR - Chiesa (Sold - Loan)

Reserves and Academy Players are another year older and can make up 1st team squad when injuries occur or early cup games.

GK - Woodman, Pecsi + Others

DEF - Nallo, Pinnington, Lucky + Others

MID - Nyoni, Morrison + Others

FOR - Danns, Gordon + Others

Transfers In

Can’t see big spending a year after we broke our record transfer fees.

It will probably be the scum backing carrick that throws big numbers out to the next hyped players. Also Chelsea and the cheaters will probably recycle their entire squads again.

I reckon we only need a solid right back and an experienced 30 year old type forward player, happy to sign a last professional contract with the best team they could ever play for :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: - No need for midfield improvements, plenty of options to shuffle it round.

It makes sense to go after homegrown and probably West Ham and/or Forest considering one of them is likely to drop.

Salah’s transfer to fund one or even two of these suggestions.

Jarod Bowen - (signed a 7 yr in 2023? - 4 yrs left, offer him 3 yrs. Can’t see wanting to play Championship football)

Jacob Murphy - (1 yr left, offer him 2 yrs)

Harvey Barnes - (2 yrs left, offer him 4 yrs, and to see barnes sprinting down the left wing again towards the line would bring back great memories :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:)

Alex Iwobi - 2 yrs left, offer him 2 yrs

Ollie Watkins - 2 yrs left, offer him 2 yrs

If Spurs f**k it up then we should go in for Archie Gray and Van de ven :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Rotate any new signings into total 20 players premier league squad as per overall availability at the time.

That’s me done, all the best!

Olise is currently earning around 250K at BM. I doubt LFC would increase that salary and I’m sure he wouldn’t want to take a pay cut to get here.

Ā£50m for Jones who will have a year left on his deal?

It’s the market.

Look at what are the going prices for elite young CB’s.

We were in for a few of them, failed to get a few and now we got one of the next ones, or at least let’s hope he’s as good as they’re saying his ceiling is.

Could see that. We paid 35m for Ox 10 years ago in same condition too. Mount price is 65?

Hard to get 50 but around 45 is very reasonable. But only if we sell to PL team.

Sold Jones, keep only 3 first team midfielders , Bowen or Iwobi replace Salah, it suicidal plan imo.

I think the club have already activated their +1 option on Ali’s contract.

Hopefully he’s here at least next season (and wants to be), we’ll revisit it again in a year’s time and see what to do. We’ll also see if Mama is satisfied enough to be in this role for at least one more season…

Really no need to just open up holes in this team absolutely everywhere. It’s almost mission impossible. And we still bloody don’t know what we’ll qualify for next season, so I guess most people here count on ideal scenario with their calculations.
