What @Hephaestus said.
You might be right, but I think we usually see that the total earning potential for players in the Premier League is appealing when endorsements and sponsorships are factored in. Plus you get to play in the best league in the world. We shall see, ultimately, because I think a premier league team is going to make a push to bring him back here sooner or later.
Akliouche from Monaco before he goes to a a German club and then cost us 10 times more.
Well, Gakpo is also earning the same amount of wage. Kick Gakpo out and we can pay him.
A formation without wingers will be crushed in the PL.
Welcome @oracular_spectacular glad to have you aboard!
I remember a while ago a few of us were talking about Aina as an experienced and solid right back, especially given the injury problems we have there. If Frimpong is pushed forward as a winger I could see something like that.
Personally I think we still have plenty of room for more spending as we build out the team, and I could see something like 200M+ being spent and 100M coming back in.
I would be surprised if we donāt sign a good winger with years ahead of him.
Writing players off because the Head Coach isnāt using them correctly or getting the best out of them is also a bit premature.
Iād like us to sell Gakpo ASAP to rebalance our wage structure. Right now he is earning much more than our entire midfield (for example, Szobo is only on 120k per week).
If FSG stick with Slot next season, his son Gakpo will be captain. Forget kicking him (Gakpo) out⦠![]()
The fallacy here though is that Diaz played much more than Gakpo last season and probably would have this season if he didnāt demand a transfer.
It could be more of ānot choosingā Chiesa more than it is choosing Gakpo.
I know itās probably not popular to say it, but Gakpo wonāt be sold. The club offered him a lot of money and an extension and he signed it, who wouldnāt?
He probably starts the match on Saturday, also bearing in mind Wirtz and Frimpong are doubtful.
We can kind of guess whoās going to start at RB, thatās not on Slot though as heās not just picking our best player there just for a laugh. If the 2 players whose position is confirmed as RBās could stay fit long enough then he wouldnāt be making that choice. The previous RB did almost 400 games in the position without hardly ever being rotated from it.
When the summer transfer window opens, the first player they need to purchase is a RB. Then second thing would be to make Szoboszlai the biggest offer in the clubs history and he plays in the position heās best at . YNWA
??? Letās not pay him more than Salah. No letās not.
Gakpo has been here longer than Szobo so his new contract discussions started earlier. Szobo and others have already started discussions with the club so will be on higher wages once they have been agreed. I think it unlikely they would have paid Gakpo more than they are willing to pay Szobo.
Gakpoās reported wage seems too high. He is a decent player, but not elite. Our biggest need on the wing is to upgrade a fading Mo Salah. If we canāt afford to do both flanks, Gakpo stays. But if we get a versatile player like Diomande, who can play on both sides, Frimpong will see some games on the right wing, Diomande on the left, and Gakpo on the bench. As we progress hopefully Rio will start to factor into it more and more, though I donāt want him to be a regular starter yet.
The dream scenario would be Gakpo to Bayern in some sort of deal with Olise coming this way. They can afford his wages and I think they had previous interest. That might be too much to hope for, but imagine a world where Salah and Gakpo are replaced by Olise and Diomande, with Rio and Frimpong as their understudies. Iāll have some of that!
I understand that a wage increase is inevitable, but 250k per week for a squad player like him is pure idiocy.
We likely offered Diaz less than that, thatās why he left.
You like Diomande?
I reckon thats around 7000 posts where you mention him! Its fanboy stuff!
I agree that Diaz possibly leaving was down to not enough money to satisfy him and his team/family.
But he had already turned Liverpool down and agreed to move to Bayern, and then a month later the club shuffles the money he could have got over to Gakpo because he says he wants to stay at LFC. The deal doesnāt get the fans excited, but itās the going rate isnāt it for a player who has a league champions medal and plays in the champions league.
The winner here is Diaz, as heās got paid what he wanted, heās smashing into the goal contributions at his new club and he could be the one at the end of the season with a champions league medal around his neck.
I doubt this, the club have a wage structure they follow. Itās more likely Diaz was seeking something closer to what we agreed with Mo.
If Gakpo is indeed on a deal worth Ā£250k pw then it will be heavily incentivised and therefore unlikely to be receiving anything close to that on this seasonās performances.
I donāt believe for a second that heās on Ā£250k a week.
I find it amusing when people fume over stuff that theyāve invented ![]()
