Who would you buy? (Part 2)

Why can’t wingers be both at the same time?

There you go.

Big breakout

see three incoming signings to replace Salah, Gomez and Macca (assuming all three are leaving)

Would be nice if Gomez could be replaced by someone like Livramento.

If we only sign 3 in the summer we’re in a world of shit. Relegation type shit.

Laugh all you want.

Salah, Robbo, Endo and Chiesa all leaving or surplus to requirement under Slot.
Gomez, Bradley, Frimpong and Isak all made out of biscuit.
Leoni and Ekiteke wont be fit for 2-3 months into the new season at best.
VVD on the wane and a young, untested CB coming in.
Gakpo and MacAllister stinking the place out every week.
All on the back of a World Cup. With Slot in charge.
I can’t fucking wait me.

Well which is it? We need a squad overhaul or a new manager? Because if the manager is the issue, and a season of being poorer than the sum of our parts suggests so, then what difference will a load more players make?

But if the players are the issue then why would buying loads more help? We did that last summer and got worse.

If it’s a combo of both then you’re dreaming if you think we’ll get rid of Slot and do another overhaul of the squad instead of expecting the new manager to deliver more with the majority of the squad we have now.

Your point would have more validity if you didn’t reference players like Endo and Chiesa, neither of whom we’d have massively missed if they’d gone last summer instead.

But we’re not getting into a relegation battle if we only sign three players instead of four. That’s the bit that’s funny.

To answer your initial question, we need both.

I don’t expect either thing to happen, but they both need to. Anyone thinking we only need 3 signings and a rweak of the squad is deluded.

Luckily you left out Jones.

Yes, the neat mediocrity of Curtis Jones will be one of the season’s highlights.

And anyone thinking we’ll be in a relegation scrap if we only sign three players is beyond deluded.

They can but there aren´t that many of them.

Maybe I should have said a more dynamic winger and then somebody in the Kvara mold who is a bit more technical. Yildiz for example.

Ideally more but I think we need at least 5 signings to have a good season

CM
DM
LW
RW
Fullback

And there is a case to be made for another striker, another full back and an experienced CB. A LOT of work to be done this summer. I can´t believe we left it until the moment Salah leaves to find his replacement and we thought Gakpo and a kid would be enough for LW.

To be honest, I wouldn´t mind if Gakpo, Grav, Mac and Dom all left and we replaced our entire midfield. Maybe 2 or ideally 3 new ones and bringing back Morton (is Bajcetic alive?)

I think this is essential. Possibly even an older player who can cover, given that two of our CBs will be younger players recovering from injury. I’m assuming that one of Ibou or Joe will leave.

Given the money we spent on Jacquet and Leoni and with Konate and Gomez I think it´s the least essential.

Don´t get me wrong, I would like an experienced CB, but we absolutely nothing out wide and our midfield is really poor. I think we could get by at CB for another season, even if it´s not ideal.

We’ve underperformed this year. A lot of that had to do with replacing too many players at once and losing the continuity that served us well so far.

Injuries didn’t help , slot’s tactics didn’t help and other circumstances didn’t help either.

But we are within a victory at United of potentially finishing in the top 3.

We’ll need to replace the players who are going.

As far as Chiesa , Jones , Elliot go - they are bit part players right now. 2 of the 3 almost certain to go.

After a massive rebuild the previous year and we’ve added Jacquet to boost up the defense as well.

We really don’t need that many massive changes. 2 changes out of which both of them come directly into the first team , the Salah replacement and possibly a good improvement on the right back front.

It will be good to get a defensive midfielder in obviously

I’m not counting Joe as a CB at this point even if he does stay for squad rotation purposes. While it would be good to get some more CBs , I see that only happening if we go in for Alonso and he wants to play his Leverkusen system.

I massively disagree.

We found out this season that without Salah carrying us, and without Diaz and Diogo, we look distinctly average. Being close to finishing above a mediocre Utd side does not cut it.

Salah is going to be gone and Van Dijk and Alisson, our two other big carry players, are another year older and likely worse.

Jacquet looks promising but he is not going to make up for all the deficiencies in this team. We have no wingers and a very mediocre midfield, as well as a fairly mediocre defence.

We need at least 5 good players coming in to not only make up for that but to push us back up with Man City and Arsenal.

Wirtz , Ekitike have shown flashes of brilliance. Isak has been unlucky due to injury.

The fact is that we did infact replace Jota and Diaz. Not in their preferred position but across the forward line. Didn’t work out for us this season because all three were injured at some point or the other this season.

If anyone needs to go in attack , it should be Gakpo and we have a replacement for him 7j Ngumoha already.

I for one think it’s been Slot and his tactics that have let us down.

We played this season with a lone DM whereas last year it was a modified DM pivot.

Someone like Alonso would use the extra CB when he’s playing the 3 man CB team to be join the defensive midfielder during transitional play.
