Hardly any of us have heard about Leoni and Jacquet prior to them signing, I assume it was the case with most Leverkusen fans and Quansah. I like(d) Quansah, don’t get me wrong, I just couldn’t tell what to expect from him in the long run. At this level, sometimes it’s enough to make just one big mistake and your self-confidence is broken and you go on a downward spiral. That’s what I think happened to him at Old Trafford.
I don’t think many fans wanted him sold, myself included, a lot had hoped for a good loan move. Who knows, maybe this is that loan move, only worded differently, but as long as Slot is here, I don’t think he will consider a return.
As for Konate, he’s coming off the worst season of his career and quite likely the most difficult one from a personal point of view. Six months ago or so, I was shrugging my shoulders at the thought of him joining Real Madrid. With all that has transpired in the meantime, I’d like him to extend because I’d like to see some semblance of continuity from Klopp’s era and a positive presence in the dressing room. If he extends, I hope his subsequent seasons with Liverpool are like 2024/25.
And then he became a Force ghost and advised Paisley “Use the Force, Bob” and Paisely became our most decorated manager. We all remember that Death Star Cup Final.
I see Curtis Jones is being touted at 35m. I reckon we should be in for him. Tidy player, good control, homegrown. He’s got a couple of weaknesses that could be ironed out by the right coach, but a solid squad option at that price.
Midfield
I want a ball playing midfielder that breaks the lines with their passing. Anderson would be my pick as he´s the most driven and can also carry the ball but Wharton is very good and a better creative passer. He sometimes seems a bit lackadaisical though. Other names would be Morten Hjuland at Sporting and I guess Angelo Stiller. Not convinced by any other PL options.
I also want a Fabinho type to sit and win the ball and keep things moving with simple passing. Not charging upfield vacating his position like Grav. Maybe the kid Camara at Monaco but he does love running up.
For the wings:
Francisco Conceicao, Mika Godts, Andreas Schulerdrup, Kenan Yildiz, Ez Abde, Barcola, and probably Diomande are the players I´ve seen that look good enough. Maybe Rayan at Bournemouth. Two of the above, one for each side. Looking for pace, ability to beat a man and playing with their head up to pick a pass. I don´t want somebody fannying around in field half the time though closing Wirtz´s space down.
get those 4 players and our front 6 is looking good again. Happy to sell Gakpo and any or all of our midfielders bar Jones to make it happen.
If you look for a left-winger who can start immediately for us, but does not totally block Ngumoha, Gordon is probably the ideal choice since he is 6 years older than Ngumoha.
Bayern Munich is also watching him and IMO their scouting and transfer teams are very good.
If the guy coming in is better and also young especially. Unless we think Ngumoha is the next Messi or something but Messi got past Giuly for example who would walk into our side.
I think we’ll only get one winger. Salah replacement and Ngumoha will get more games next season. Frimpong and Wirtz to supplement. Ekitike, new guy, Isak, Gakpo and Ngumoha. Not ideal but sounds like we’re interested in either Barcola or Diomande and not both.
I really like Conceicao, and he’d be half the price of Barcola or Diomande. Every time I’ve watched Juve this season (maybe half a dozen), he’s been a handful for opposing LB, and always one of the best on the pitch.
He also turns 24 halfway through next season, so should be entering his prime years now.
