Him and Kerkez either flank, blistering pace down both wings, stretch the field both vertically and horizontally, allows wingers to tuck inside into more dangerous areas. Frimpong coming off a career season at Leverkusen where he got 12 assists and 5 goals.
Yes we knew he was raw defensively but he’s so dangerous with that pace and direct goal threat coming from deep areas. We bought him with the idea that he could be coached the other part of the game, kind of similar to how Robertson was brought along.
To some degree, but there is a world of difference between using players like Ramsey and Neco or Quansah for example, and that’s before considering how well the team is functioning as a unit.
Injuries have cost us promising players in the short term who were progressing like Danns and others more long term like Mabaya, while we also sold on some so the remaining pool of players is weaker.
Well Quansah was used, didn’t battle for some duels was subbed at half time and never saw the first team picture pretty much again. When Klopp left he felt he left a good side and some up and coming players, some who were loaned out or who were sold. Now I don’t know what Bobby Clark could have done but he wasn’t a bad player and would have allowed some rotation. He doesn’t seem interested in attempts at rotation mind.
Personally I don’t think he is a very good coach in that area.
Bobby had a great season on loan at Derby in the Championship. Their fans think he’s class - although I don’t necessarily think he was close to making a proper breakthrough here.
Not closely. However the top Dutch clubs do have a naturally high turnover of players. Feyernoord have been virtually turning over almost a squad’s worth of players each season. The average age of their squad is around 24 with a lot of them aged 18-24.
Can’t think of first teamers yet…because no idea who will stay or who will go.
But, we need a senior experienced CB now that Ibou is leaving.
Get Kostas back as cover for LB.
We need a ball playing RB cover.
A winger for Mo replacement.
No. 6 to replace Grav and move him forward instead.
But,the most important thing that needs to happen in this transfer window is to go back to your roots and find the profile of players who will put in the hard yards and are not afraid to be bullied across the park.
We have become a team of softies and that’s the thing I want to see change, no matter what…we shall not be moved.
So, atleast from a squad perspective and considering we don’t want to blow too much of our budget in rotation players:
My choices will be
Harry wilson
Jarred Bowen
Alex scott (might be pricy)
Matheus Mane
A controversial one Nunez - Bring him back …to teach our forwards pressing.
Isak,Gakpo,Ekitike and somewhat Wirtz are all so poor in pressing from the front.
That’s what I am worried about.
The targets I am hearing Wharton, Barcola…etc
Again the sort of profiles we should be miles away. These will get bullied and can’t press to save their lives.
I just don’t understand the vision from the club right now.
Hopefully head coach change may finally break the ice to target fighters instead of softies.
Wharton just won a trophy again and a very good display in the final. Lets go get him now.
Very good passer, positive and is excellent at bringing his attackes into the game. Missing that from our midfield. Seems a very good English northern lad too.
Konate leaving is a bit meh in the sense that whether he left or not, we needed a CB. Ultimately VVD needs to be phased out and so there would have been a requirement either way to bed in the “new guy”. Konate leaving is annoying as there is now no option to transition and we will go into next season with VVD partnering a bunch of unknowns.
Former Slot player at Feyenoord. Left footed CB but can also play LB. 50 games / 3417 minutes played this season. 67,7% duels won - highest percentage in the Bundesliga.
With that said even after Konates departure I’m not sure a CB will be priority for us this summer.
