Journalists you would consider reliable have been saying it for a while. I think James Ducker wrote months ago that Man United were going to pay 100M for him but that they felt he was Man City-bound. He’s a quality player, I’d ditch our starting two midfielders for him and Wharton in a heartbeat, as cruel as that sounds.
@Sweeting, social media are mentioning a young Italian right backed named Palestra from Atalanta as a possible target. How does he fit according to your data?
Don’t have access to the data right now but he was top end. Think I mentioned him in a post recently alongside Wesley. Although from the reports I’ve seen he wouldn’t be cheap.
Nope. Sorry. We’ve grown beyond having a pochettino.
If we do have to take a coach , it’s better to have someone like Iraola (that we are linked with) , the upside is much higher
That post was a month ago before Ireola even announced he was leaving Bournemouth!
Month before I started becoming active. Sorry mate.
But I agree Ireola is the better choice ![]()
Lovren, Clyne, Lambert all scored for Southampton against us (I could be remembering wrong ![]()
) and Lallana had a decent time against us.
Benteke took us apart - was that in the FA Cup semi?
Basically Rodgers scouting method was to try and sign players who performed well when he saw them playing us.
As of today, right now, this is the weakest Liverpool squad I’ve ever known. That’s going back to the early 70’s.
I know we have some quality players still, but in terms of attitude, mentality, desire, will to win, numbers, fitness and availability etc I refuse to believe we’ve been weaker than this.
Hopefully the mentality, attitude and fitness will improve under Iraola but the numbers and availability are going to be a massive concern going into the new season if we don’t make 7 or 8 quality signings, and that’s a minimum.
How the fuck we’ve found ourselves in this situation after the money we spent last summer is mind-blowing.
What are you smoking today ![]()
We did the same under Klopp too when we got in Nunez and Minamino after their performances against us. All our transfers weren’t that way obviously but there will always be those transfers where the coach has his eye set on a player and the transfer committee decides to give the coach what he wants.

My thought immediately went to Hodgson’s time…But even then we had Gerrard, Reina, Kuyt, Torres (for a while), Glenn Johnson is comfortably better than anything we have at right back at the moment, Ryan Babel from the bench…
Well, last season was disappointing and showed a lot of weakness, but it’s unbelievable how much people underestimate us.
We have Wirtz, Isak, Alisson, VVD: all considered top 5 in their positions.
Ekitike, Szobo, Gravenberch, Mac Allister: all are high-profile players who could be the main man anywhere.
Some of the highest-rated prospects in their positions: jaquet, Leoni, Rio, Kerkez.
This squad right now is just missing some final pieces, but the potential is high.
Form is temporary, class is permanent. There are very few of our players that I have doubts about going forward. Give it 12 months and we will see who is really not up to scratch.
“Ethan Nwaneri”, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, could be considered as a potential sale. As an academy player, any fee received would be booked entirely as profit. Lewis-Skelly was seemingly at risk, but has now reasserted himself as an option in midfield."
I’ve always viewed him as a bit arrogant but I think he’s a star in the making. I’d be surprised if Arsenal sold him, especially to a rival, but stranger things have happened and PSR dictates the sales of academy products, unfortunately. If they decided to sell him, though, I’d like to think that Liverpool would be interested.
Ah cheers.
Nah not cruel at all. They´re way better players. Ours are basically guys who run around but don´t excel in much. When there is 3 of them it´s solid enough but relies on a really really good front 3.
Well, Van Dijk is getting worse every year as he ages, Ali is always injured, Wirtz had a mediocre season and Isak was injured and we don´t know how it will go.
I rate Isak and Wirtz talent wise but even they have question marks.
Of the rest. To be honest I find them quite mediocre except Hugo who is a brilliant talent.
But agree on the young players. Leoni looked very good and the others have promise.
I´m genuinely quite positive about our chances but I think the Squad needs a massive overhaul. 5 or 6 starters at least. We´re miles from PSG for example, and quite a bit behind Arsenal even
There is plenty of denial on here, that’s for sure.
Let’s take a look at our fantastic squad as it stands tonight.
We have a world class goalkeeper who can’t stay fit for more than a few weeks. Back up is a bloke who a lot of our fans don’t rate and is terrible with the ball at his feet.(Although I think he’s decent enough and it doesn’t help when 90% of our back-passes are to his wrong foot).
We have 1 (one) left-back.
We have 1 (one) right-back who might turn out to be the biggest crock of them all. His competition is another sick-note who is neither one thing or another and right now looks a very poor signing. Looks a good laugh though.
We have 1 (one) reliable centre-back. He will be 35 years old at the start of the season and will be flogged to death in the USA this summer. His main partner has just jumped ship leaving Joe Gomez (perma-crock), Jacquet (total unknown quantity at PL level) and Leoni (will still be recovering from a bad injury at the start of the season and another unknown quantity at this level) as his potential partners as things stand.
In midfield we have 5 blokes of varying quality, ranging from decent to barely able to run anymore. None of them can effectively play the Fabinho role and none of them are either creative or a goal threat, they scored 14 PL goals between them last season. The only one I’d be genuinely sorry to see leave is Endo who was treated appallingly by Slot.
We have Wirtz who looked completely lost last season but may flourish under a new manager or continue to look like a boy amongst men.
On the right we have nothing. Mo has gone. His stand-in, Chiesa , is never going to make it here.
On the left we have Gakpo who is fucking useless, a one trick pony, and young Rio who isn’t ready to start regularly.
CF we have another crock, Isak, and Ekiteke who probably wont be fit until Christmas if we’re lucky.
What about the young lads coming through I hear you ask? There are none.
The whole squad is a fucking shambles. A genuine question, how many of our players can you say are playing to any sort of acceptable standard on a regular basis? VVD? Kerkez? Who else?
You might claim Iraola will be a breath of fresh air and will whip them into shape and I hope to fuck he does. After Klopp he was my first choice. But that all remains to be seen. Like I said, as of tonight this is the weakest, the most threadbare and most vulnerable squad I can ever remember.
I think many of our players are going to look much better when they’re being led by a head coach who has a clue how to rally and deploy them effectively.
