Who would you buy? (Part 2)

Yeah, that’s not a great team and I’m not claiming it is. Where’s the context? Who were we playing? Who was on the bench? At least most of them could be relied upon to get on the fucking pitch, unlike half the squad today.

It was vs Napoli away in 2010.

Very good summary.

The only thing I don“t agree on is that Wirtz did look pretty good for a few months and then turned to kack.

Half of them would start for us right now, that“s the scary thing!

Fucking hell. Sounds like Slot did an incredible job to get that shower into fifth place! :joy:

There is clearly loads to do, and I have said we need five or six - a CB, RB, CM, 2xRW and ST. But it isn’t anywhere near as grim as you’ve suggested here. If we think Slot had to go for underperforming with the players at his disposal (which I agree he did) l, where does that leave us? There were only four positions ahead of us he could have finished in. If fifth place is a disappointing season, that suggests this squad is a lot better than it has shown this year.

And for the next game in the PL Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Lucas, Raul Meireles and Maxi Rodriguez were all back in the starting 11.
Dirk Kuyt, Dan Agger, Insua, Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan were all at the club too.

True.

it“s a fair point but I“d also say the league is a shower of shit right now

Chelsea were shocking and one of the teams above us is Aston Villa. Bournemouth were breathing down our necks.

Of course it“s not a relgation squad but it“s miles from a team that will challenge for the title consistently.

I can see your point, but I don’t think the league is a shower of shit. You can say it’s shit, but I think it’s the opposite. There is incredible strength through the whole league.

The congestion in the middle of the table, from fourth to seventeenth is proof of that. Time was the top six were pretty much an island. Now any game in that cluster of 14-15 games is much more of a coin toss. Teams near the bottom of the league are capable of competing with those near the top.

Also I don’t think we’re miles off a title challenge, if we do our business properly this summer. There are gaps in the squad, but I think the first team is potentially strong. The biggest advantage Arsenal have over us is incredible depth.

Well maybe I would have said better that the big clubs are really poor right now.

We have to do some serious business even to catch Arsenal though. Like 5 players at least and get them all right, without them seriously strengthening.

Arsenal aren“t that good but they have a solid functional team.

…we’re fine?

The league as whole is a lot stronger as it pays the most and has a greater interest and pull than other leagues.

I’m a glass half-empty person so I’m not so sure…

It“s stronger than other leagues but that doesn“t make it stronger than previous premier leagues.

No shit :joy:

I do share concern about the squad and think we need major work this summer. We do have some top quality players though. Will be interesting to see how Iraola can improve them. No one foresaw those Bournemouth players going to PSG, Real Madrid, City and Liverpool!

I“d definitely buy this guy for left wing

That would be madness, but I wonder if they worry they dont have room to do right by both he and Dowman. We absolutely should be all over it if there is any truth to this.

Looks like he has a good shot but not that much else to be honest, from what I have seen.
