Some gossip about Guehi being a CB target, as far as Prem CB’s go…Nathan Collins would be top of my list, very good defender in him.

Last summer there was a Lot of talk about Guehi being a target but i havent seen anything concrete to confirm that interest was real, which i would have expected given he almost went to Newcastle.

I saw an article today attributed to the Mirror that we are in for him this summer. With Newxastle and Chelsea also linked.

Yeah, these are links that wont go away. It’s difficult to tell if that is because they real, or because people link you to players you were linked to in the past so the link perpetuates. Its not one that fills me with excitement though. He’s fine and probably should be playing at a level competing for the CL places, but he’s only 6 feet tall and I just cannot get my head round a replacement for an absolute colossus being that short.

Gomez looks to be done physically at the top level.

He couldn’t even last 11 minutes after a supposed recovery…

Not a doctor but just purely from Stats, he only played 874 minutes all season for all competitions with 17 game appearances.

Liverpool has played 47 matches across all comps so far and will play 57 matches at the end of the season…In other words, Gomez has only featured in 17% so far for all the matches played in this season…

Either Slot doesn’t trust his ability as much you would like to think or Gomez’s body cannot handle the rigour of football or possibly a bit of both…

Is he an armchair physician or one of them fancy lying down ones? It would be folly to disregard the later methinks.

As a squad player (and especially a defensive squad player, and especially a Slot squad player) you would surely expect him to play in fewer matches than other.

He has been unlucky with the timing of injuries this season, but he isn’t the only one.

There is something of a trend of players breaking down again just after coming back from injury. Might be something we need to look at.

Bradley and Gomez at RB next season? Suicidal.

Bradley not yet fully established as a starter and seems to struggle with injuries quite a lot.

Gomez can do a job at RB but is limited and has always been injury prone.

I’d question the ambition of anyone who would be ok with that pairing.

You make a fair point. To my mind, assuming Trent goes, what sort of right back we buy might be influenced by the overall business we have to do.

Arguably it might be Bradley and Quansah covering right back for next season. Quansah has had a few showings there and has been ok. It might be better for him to see action there rather than sitting on the bench as third choice, at best, centre back.

I think Bradley is a smashing player, but the injuries are a concern.

What the hell do you do with Bradley then?

Only real solution is get Trent to sign maybe on promise type contract and I don’t know if he will do that. And whether Real would be interested once a fee came involved.

Which if your Trent should in itself sound alarm bells.

It’s likely we may have to sign about 4-5 players and probably only recoup on one.

I suppose there is a possibility Bajcetic could be Bradley’s backup at RB. He has played there for the U18s and U21s previously.

Whoever is our starter there will be a massive downgrade from Trent and mean a different focus to our buildup play. Trent is a unicorn, we can’t buy someone to do the same job.

If Trent leaves you bring in a top right back and make Bradley compete with him. That is life at a big club.

How do you replace the other 4 players?

I really don’t see how you replace Trent without spending a small fortune.

Yeah, I think this is needed. Particularly with Bradley’s injuries.

True, which is why I think Slot will adjust his tactics after Trent’s probable departure. Imagine having Kerkez and a right back version of Kerkez - if Trent does leave, I wouldn’t say no to having a more conventional pair of fullbacks who are both able to bomb up and down and are difficult to play against.

Bradley could have been well on his way to becoming such a fullback had it not been for injuries but I still hope medical staff will find a way to help him reduce their number and duration. He reminds me of young Robbo so much.

Getting both fullback positions right this summer, one way or another, is crucial not just to the balance of the team but also to the numbers that our wingers post, I think. Robbo played a major role in Mane being so good - I believe Gakpo and Diaz would have scored/assisted more with prime Robbo behind them.

I don’t think Slot will want to have “two Kerkez’s” (stylistically) at full back.

He adjusts how we build up depending also on how the opposition presses.

So there are different subtypes among what you’d call more natural full backs.
