Women's Football: General Discussions

OK. The footage I saw appeared to be a header from the England player. Unfortunately, it was only from the one angle. That seems to be the relevant detail and not the initial, pretty obvious, offside position thattheykept showing. What I did notice was that one of the Chinese defenders had to adjust her step as she came back onside. Seemingly that is irrelevant.

Yeah, I think that is a text book case of one of the ones that require a long time to work through. First review has to determine if there was a touch from the england player. Only once they decide there wasnt can they call the ref to the monitor to then make a call on the deliberateness of the chinese touch so it’s a series of decisions that have to be made one after the other by different people hence it taking longer.

I didnt see it live only the highlights this morning so I dont have a sense of the confusion that was happening around the decision. But this is supposed to be what the new VAR communication directive was brought in to address. The first example I saw of it working was really unhelpful so I assume in this case the ref just said the goal had been disallowed for offside and elaborated no more?

Naomi Campbell Next Question GIF

Yes, exactly that.

South Africa beat Italy 3-2 with an injury time winner to go through and knock Italy out

Big game Jamaica vs. Brazil. Jamaica needs a point, Brazil needs all three.

This Brazil team isn’t very good. And are also physically inferior to a lot of other women’s teams in this WC

Yeah, they are getting knocked out. Panama :panama: vs France is so one-sided.

Italy out to South Africa and now Brazil out to Jamaica - what a brillant day :grinning:

The only negative is I was too chickenshit to put a bet on both these results

And the US nearly out to Portugal yesterday. They make Sam Allardyce’s Bolton look skilful!

Kind of the exacta opposite of an Allardyce team at the moment for the US. A team of individuals who each have some talent and plenty of athleticism, but pass like they just met at the park 20 minutes ago for the first time. Although I suppose their idea of a pass is to limp it forward to someone who is isolated between 2 defenders and no coach coach in their entire career has suggested that it would be smart to play a simple pass to a teammate rather than to dot that or attempt to beat 3 defenders on their own.

This team is in a “smelling their own farts” stage of development. Older players who have done it all feeling entitled to win and get plaudits for it, and younger players who inherited the mantle of favorites earned by the success and hard work of players who came before.

Also they faced up to Portugal players as if they’ve never seen anyone take a clever first touch. Every time they got caught flat footed. All over the pitch

Holy shit, Germany on the ropes, 1-0 down to S Korea before 10 mins have passed, could have easily been 2-0 down.

Crazy World Cup!

They just need to regroup at halftime and start over

Korea need to take a page from the German book and foul their opponent when they lose possession.

I think the Koreans will become exhausted around 70 mins, the Germans are much better physically.
