Women's Football: General Discussions

For lack of a better term the Germans are acting like right nasty cunts. Dirty challenges all around and the ref is just allowing them

Great display of solidarity with the German men’s team, didn’t want to make the boys feel bad

Was that reverse psychology because you’ve jinxed it for Germany now haha

I think this world cup has become interesting as the first that has really put aside the old dominance of the original powerhouses of Norway, Germany and the US.

Among those 3 countries they took 8 of the 10 spots in the first 5 finals up to 2011 and won all of them. Of that group Germany are already out and Norway and the US both look very beatable.

Brazil and China were the first countries to challenge that dominant group and they are both gone.

Japan are probably the next most established side and do look good. But then the rest are from nations like England and the Netherlands who only have a recent history in the women’s game and other nations who have none.

As for Germany, that already happened years ago. Getting to the finals at the Euros last year was more of a pleasant surprise. It’s still a somewhat decent team generally, capable of good performances but lacking a bit of punch and tactical versatility. Popp can’t score 2 headers every single game.

The French were rubbing their hands about meeting Marocco in the last 16 match they are already preparing for the quarter finals I really hope Marocco beat them 1:0 in the 97th minute of the game to make it even more painful the Moroccan manager I believe is French and is well known to the French team

I cannot believe that we let the Nigerian superstar Oshoala go when she was at Liverpool

I am actually going to watch the Sweden v USA match this morning.

Never thought I’d say that, but watching the highlights of the earlier matches online (as well as your enthusiasm here) has convinced me to give women’s football a fair go.

The games are pretty good. Technically the players are good. But they don’t have the physic to play for 90 mins, specially the non European players.

Not been a bad first half. No goals, but good passing and the game is a lot quicker than it was when I last watched a women’s match some years ago. You can clearly see that it’s progressed.

And it’s so refreshing not to see rolling about and diving; a Swedish defender took an elbow to the face and just went down. No histrionics; no waving of imaginary cards. If only the men’s game could go back to being like that.

Feel a bit sad for USA :us:, they were the dominant side. Cheers for Sweden :sweden:.

Tough one, but 3 pens off target is losing most of time. Pens are so cruel.

As soon as they became paid like our men, they began to play like them. Not a great investment it seems.

Pay your men less and they’ll start winning World Cups.

Only half watching, but this look like a very intense game. Fingers crossed England can nick a goal.
