I think the internationals are a big deal for some players. Particularly when they aren’t in a team that is challenging for trophies. I just wish Andy Robertson would knock the internationals on the head and preserve what is left of his club career.
The sense of entitlement from some of these women asking for equal pay/sponsorship money etc is staggering.
The women’s game is already receiving far more coverage on the likes of Sky than it merits. Ex-players nobody has ever heard of sitting in studios disecting the men’s game telling us what he should have done/what they’d have done in the same situation. Do me a fucking favour.
Here’s a thought, if they want equality with the men’s game then maybe they could ask to have all the women players’ removed from the facade of the Kop until they’ve earned it because nobody knows who any of them are and they’ve done fuck all to put this club on the map. It’s an insult to some of the greatest players we’ve had who should be up there but aren’t because of PC bullshit.
Throwing words around like ‘insult’ and ‘PC Bullshit’ around suggests that you have little idea what you are talking about.
In the 1920’s, the FA - threatened by the popularity of the women’s game - banned women from playing football. They killed a thriving women’s game because it was drawing gates in excess of those being drawn for the mens.
That ban lasted until the 1970s, and meaningful support didn’t really arrive until this century. The women’s game was set back over fifty years by this.
So if you feel all triggered by these uppity women demanding to be treated the same as the men, just remember that they wouldn’t need to if a bunch of insecure, snowflake men hadn’t destroyed their game a hundred years ago.
Token displays of equality like elevating female pundits, or putting a few women on club publicity is the very fucking least that women should expect from the game
losing in a closed door friendly is hardly a mentionable stat as well.
what were the parameters?..was it an experimental side, were the girls subject to two touch, were they day one on a training camp?
next we’ll be looking around at the goals conceded by allison in a shooting drill to form some form of evidence?
whilst i undersatnd Jaffods point, i dont agree with it, and not for reasons of equality…its not that i think Tegan Micah is a better goalkeeper than Allison, its alot simplet than Mascots point…its simply becuase football has realised that Girls can play football too, girls buy strips and girls support the club and sport, in massive numbers, so they give them something to associate with…
my daughter is football mad, she supports in the main the mens team, but loves the womens football too and it obviously resonates with her…to see a female footballers face on the website banner next to VVD is a lot more than you think, it means the club value a females support, want them in the equation…
theres a market there, and the sport needs to recognise it and nuture it.
i get that for those without a dog in the fight its hard to compare the two and hard to get excited about a blatantly inferior version of the game, just think more selflessly though, you are witnessing a moment in time where the womens game is being given the chance and encouragement it needs to thrive
enjoy it, or in respect for girls everywhere, at the least, stay out of the conversation.
Your usual arrogance. Anyone expressing a view that differs from yours doesn’t know what they’re talking about. If only we were all as wise and informed as you.
It is ‘PC bullshit’ that has seen women players plastered all over the Kop whether you want to admit it or not. None of them have done a single thing to deserve being there and 99% of the clubs’ support would struggle to name any of them.
I’m not triggered by anything, if these ‘uppity women’ start generating the same amount of money through TV, sponsorship, hospitality, gate receipts, merchandising etc then by all means pay them 250K+ a week but you know as well as I do it’s pie in the sky.
I’m all for women’s football by the way, although I’m not going to pretend I’d ever watch it. In fact I can honestly say I’ve never spoken to a single person male or female who’ve expressed an interest in it. The fact ‘snowflake men’ banned it over 100 years ago doesn’t mean we have to have it rammed down our throats at every opportunity.
LOL…who writes this garbage…the result would have been of zero concern and zero interest to anyone, anywhere…except maybe the teenagers they were playing
in other breaking news, last night at training a team of reserves beat a team of senior players in a five a side warm up game at Seaford United soccer club in melbournes south east, the club heirachy are said to be EMBARRASSED and INVESTIGATIONS are underway about how this FARCE transpired, the result, said to be the worst in recent history has sparked MASSIVE CONTROVERSY and DRESSING ROOM UNREST
Which would be great if the women’s game generated the same amount of money as the men’s game. Which it doesn’t and never will.
The men can demand the obscene wages they are paid because they know how much money is pouring into the clubs and at the end of the day they are the star of the show, the women’s game attracts peanuts in comparison.
Australian (international) football would be an interesting study proposal… whilst our men have support, our womens team has levels of following our mens squad dreams of… id imgine the margins would be massive in the womens game, and the upside larger…
while the ‘transfer value’ of the squads would still be very heavily skewed, thats market demand…the value of the womens team to australian football would be very close, if not already, outweighing the importance of the male game
i wonder what the american stance is too…
thered be many metrics where the men rate higher than the women, but id imagine thered be plenty where the women outweigh the men…
interesting stuff really…
while the quality of the game is undeniably inferior, its important to note that quality is not the only driver in football popularity…or else you wouldnt get any attendances for local grass roots clubs…but you do…
people love things like accessability - the girls still walk the field and sign autographs, visit smaller clinics etc etc , level playing field (no need to explain that one) and everyone loves a good mistake once in a while, loves a bit of imperfection…
anyways…
not here to convince anyone…to me im a fan and thats down to my daughter, not some ideology… its brilliant these kids can look up to heros they can actually emmulate…
i do get defensive because there are so many mitigating circumstances as to why the game hasnt evolved and is getting backed to do so
It isn’t arrogance to point out the flaws in your argument and the reasons why a bit of ‘positive discrimination’ might be a good thing in this case. It isn’t arrogance to highlight the issue injustices that have led to you having the woman’s game ‘rammed down your throat’.
Try reflecting on your own behaviour. If there is one poster on this site likely to fly off the handle and launch into a stream of abuse at the temerity of someone disagreeing them, it’s you. As we see whenever anyone suggests that maybe it isn’t a great look to be wishing career ending injuries on players, or that maybe not all Everton fans are cunts.
Erm…yes it does. The fact that the women’s game was unjustly kneecapped means that we are obligated to do what we can to help it get back on track. All the ways you point out that the woman’s game is inferior, stem from that. And it lasted until the 1970s. While you were alive, women were not allowed to play football. While Bill Shankly was building LFC women were banned from the sport.
The mens game was given a massive leg up by the mens game annihilating the women’s. And now, in your head, the gulf in popularity between the two that results from that decision is also the reason why the men’s game shouldn’t be obligated to help out.
And just to remind us all that the things that constitute to having it rammed down your throat are token female pundits and some photos on the Kop.
Fucking hell, mate. That’s huge. Are you coping alright? Do you need someone to talk to?
I’m not a fan of the GAA in Ireland, but they have one thing nailed.
Hurling is a massively skillful sport played by men.
Camogie is a massively skilled sport, played by women.
Same rules. Same equipment. Same general principles.
But governed by seperate boards within the organisation.
And seen as different sports. Not a “woman’s” version of the mens game.
The same principles apply to woman’s football. It shouldn’t be seen as a version of the men’s game. It should be stand alone as a female sport.
As for the Swiss result? Why play it? If you want to humiliate female footballers, then have such a match. That’s always a potential outcome.
Maybe just a genuine effort to see what level they were at?
Let’s face it, lots of 15 year olds these days built like adults so would present a genuine physical test.
Comparing women v men in other sports.
Tennis - Just as skillful but not as powerful.
Golf - Just as skillful but not as powerful.
Boxing - Just as aggresive but not as powerful.
Football - Not as powerful, a million miles away in levels of skill.
Disclaimer - My opinion. based on watching quite a few top level womens games which showed me enough to never want to watch it again
I’m fine thanks mate. The implication someone may be mentally ill or in need of therapy because they disagree with you is interesting…
You continually claim the over-exposure of the women’s game is due to something that happened over 100 years ago. That’s it’s some sort of pay-back.
It isn’t. The people making these decisions today probably haven’t got the first clue about any of it. It’s modern-day PC nonsense, simple as that.
