Screw the players. Let’s have yearly extravaganza.

So when does the European Super League start?

The idea of holding the World Cup every two years is absolute insanity and can only be driven by greed, in this case the greed of FIFA and the national football associations.

It will place in jeopardy every other international football competition such as the European Championship, the Copa America and AFCON. It will also have an adverse impact upon football at the Olympics.

A biennial World Cup would require qualification rounds to take place in every intervening year meaning there would be little or no room in the football schedule for holding these other completions, or playing in their qualifying rounds.

The alternative, retaining all the existing competitions, together with the biennial World Cup would place an intolerable burden upon international players and their parent clubs.

International players would spend a far greater proportion of their time away on international duty, with all the commensurate risk of injury, and far less time being available to play for the clubs that actually pay their wages.

All of which can only result in higher operating costs for clubs.

Perhaps, in the longer term international qualification might come to be seen as toxic, reducing the desirability and consequently the market value of the players called up for international duty.

Fewer international players on the books, or less playing time from international players, the knock on effect would almost certainly mean that domestic league football would suffer.

While this is of no consequence to FIFA or the majority of its members, most of whom lack domestic leagues of any consequence or value, the impact on European domestic football, the financial powerhouse of world football, and all the players from other countries that have come to depend upon its largesse, could be dire.

It might be that FIFA has discovered the perfect plan, perfect that is if its intention is to kill the goose that laid the golden eggs.

We might have escaped the Super League fiasco - for now - but the direction of the “game” is clear. Games, games, more games. Money, money, more money. Football is less and less of a sport and more and more of a TV product, a never ending TV series. We need games every day, every hour, forever.

Remember when every now and then summer was just for relaxing on the beach and maybe some transfer news? It’s becoming exhausting, we need a break too sometimes, you dirty moneygrabbing c*nts.

That would be double the disappointment because England will still not win it

Fifa president Gianni Infantino called it an “eloquent and detailed proposal”, with 166 national federations voting in favour with 22 voting against.

Would like to know who the 22 were - probably some of the bigger football federations. Would be hugely disappointed if nations like England and Germany voted in favour of this shit.

Fifa were behind the Super League in the first place but then they distanced themselves and condemned it when it was confirmed.

Now they come up with this shit.

And then will not change things that fans are SCREAMING out for.

FFS FIFA and UEFA. Clowns

Obviously no one has consulted the clubs. The ones who actually pay the players’ wages. None of them will want their players involved.

Every two years is just bloody ridiculous. The Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament nobody outside Africa gives a toss about, is already every two years. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but FIFA is corrupt and they are only concerned about money.

only way a world cup every two years works is if the euros, copa and afcon et al are scrapped.

i love the world cup and think its more appealing that the confederation trophies, but the confederation trophies are a lot of fun in thier own right.

If you have the WC every two years, then the Euros, Copa America and so forth will have to cease (players can’t go their whole careers, 10-15 years playing through every summer without any rest periods).

For countries with weaker national sides (like my own), it probably means never or very rarely ever qualifying for a major tournament. Looking at GB & I, England will qualify pretty much every time, but for the likes of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales it could be once or twice in a lifetime. Smaller countries rely on the more “regional” tournaments such as the Euros to keep the fans and players interested. International football is becoming less appealing year on year, but couple that with most nations having sod all to play for and I can only see it seriously damaging the game.

If they had the World Cup every twenty years it would still be too soon for me.

FIFA is clearly trying to create its own money-spinner like the Champions League. Wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a yearly event in the future.

I think the qualification stage will be eliminated. After the inaugural season (which will have a qualification stage), eight teams (bottom placed in their respective groups) will drop down to the regional league (COPA, AFCON etc.) to regain qualification for the next tournament.

At one stage we will have two tournaments, the CL and EL of FIFA. Bottom eight of the CL/WC will get relegated to EL/World Championship and the top eight from the Championship will gain promotion to the WC. Bottom eight of the Championship will get relegated to the regional leagues.

The problem, of course, is that the more commonplace something becomes, the less special it feels.

An annual World Cup would just be a bit “meh” to most people.

They will soon be running out of names for all these competitions. Why can they not leave things alone. It is hard enough to fit all the games in now. Only clubs that can afford two first teams, like Man C and Chelski, will be able to compete in all of the club competitions and more International football will make it even harder. Do they not realise that the same players playing in the leagur games will be required for the International games ? Absolutely crazy.

It is when it’s diluted to the point of blandness, whole point of every four years is the uniqueness.

They seem to be trotting out the line about wanting to see the best teams compete every time, that’s not what football is all about.

Some of the most iconic moments in sport are down to underdogs or a lifetimes work to achieve that goal.

A World Cup every two years is as silly as a league that is the same 12 teams with one or invited.
