They did their initial week and then a pre season camp in Austria before their first friendly on the 8th not sure if that was the game but yeah he would likely have been quite a bit on his way to playing fitness.

I’m really not against at Minteh coming in. At this point I also couldn’t care less how much next weeks new signings are going to cost - we desperately need them.
The whole situation pisses me off. Players coming in now will need time and others are going to get injured before we can make use of the whole squad.

He looked good but not fantastic. He was certainly full of energy and doesn’t shirk a challenge. I don’t think he’s worth 70 million quid though.

So this guy is out for 3 months. Then it will be back on the grass, back to team training, building fitness, becoming match fit, integration in the team, getting used to the way the team plays… Half of the season will be gone before he kicks a ball for us.
Also he never really nailed a starting spot at Brighton. At some point Diego Gomez displaced him and he was benched. Hurtzeller addressed this publically implying attitude problems and saying something along the lines of - he needs to work better for the team. Then Mitoma got injured and he started some games on the left, but even then their backup LB De Cuyper was preferred to start.
His output is bad not because Brighton are bad or defensive team or whatever, I think it’s because his decision making is terrible, almost Adama Traore level - even when he gets into a good position, nothing comes out of it.
So we need a starting RW now and we are getting an injured squad player from Brighton and we are willing to pay double what they paid Newcastle for him? Someone help me make sense of that please…

Herzeler’s comments where made kind of out of the blue and surprised no one more than Brighton fans. You can see reddit pages where they are reacting to it and have no idea what he is talking about. A lot of comments about this being some kind of mind game from Herzeler but they couldn’t figure out why he would call out Minteh who is usually thought of as their best defender in the frontline.
I can’t find anywhere else that his attitude has been criticized. In fact its usually being praised.
He’s also just turned 22, there are very few players of that age with great end product. Its a skill that normally develops later at the top level. He scored 10 goals in Eredivisie as a 18/19 year old so I think the potential is definitely there to develop into a reliable goalscorer. I don’t really see any comparison with Traore. Traore is a straight line runner with very little skill. Minteh is very skillful and unpredictable he just also hasn’t yet developed the finishing touch.
Being out injured obviously isn’t ideal but that’s probably why we thought we could get him a little cheaper.
Minteh is probably behind Barcola in what he can offer us right now but I think his potential is world class. I’d rather spend £70m on him than a kid with a handful of games for PSG.
Yes would agree with that.
Lots of hustle and bustle, runs quick, but I don´t think that is quite enough for the profile of wide player we want to take us to regularly winning things.
Then again, we´re at the beggars can´t be choosers stage.

The comparison with Traore was about the decision making - he easily goes past 1-2-3 players and then nothing happens, thus lacking in end product. I have similar observations for Minteh - his shots and final passes are quite bad and he often makes the wrong decision when in good position.
Yes, he’s young, but most players don’t improve much on their initial potential. There are ton of players where you think - if he only improves this or that, he’ll be amazing… and that improvement never comes, some even regress from their initial promise.
Anyway, if we get him, I will hope you are right, but at this point from what I have seen, the best I can say is I am underwhelmed. I don’t see what he has over Rio right now and Rio is younger and with more potential IMHO.
That is why I favour more of an Endrick type where you can see really top level shooting, passing and even dribbling already, even if he´s inconsistent. He´ll do a shot or a clever pass and you´ll think fucking hell, wow. Even if he´ll then mess up an opportunity.
Not guaranteed to make it either but you can see he has the traits of world class players in there.
The issue I have with Minteh/Barcola/whoever is that the strategy seems confusing. Do we want a front 3 that are a threat or 2 on top that rely on service or a group of 5 that can break a team down? Isak for me is more complete player and could fit into any of the three categories. Cody, Rio and Hugo are more threats than providers or (out and out) finishers. Wirtz is a provider that can score and Dom is anything you want but not quite, I can see Isak and Wirtz fitting into a front 5 that can break teams down but the others lack the overall game (which maybe can be developed) for that.
So Mitnteh. He seems more rough than ready but how exactly do we see him fit into our vision. If we get him across the line we are likely looking at a front 3 that can provide a threat. If so, Minteh’s (or Cody’s and Rio’s) overall game (vision, passing, interactivity in the last third) is less important than the individual threat he will provide. A replication of Salah, Mane and Firmino is not a bad thing but it does have implications as to how we set up.
A staggeringly bad assessment and an excellent example of how easy it is to look at topic with the narrowest perspective possible.
It’s also not lost on me that barring the injury these were the exact talking points a significant amount of people used when speaking about Sadio when he signed for Liverpool.

RW = Minteh/Rayan - * stays wide, fullback underlaps
LW = Barcola/Kluivert - * plays from half space/ fullback overlaps
NB. Mbaye has been used in the same way by PSG as Minteh is for Brighton.
Stretch the back line, beat fullback, get crosses/cutbacks into the box.
Isak needs crosses, a lot of his Newcastle goals came from this type of service.
People like Endrick but he would unbalance the attack if he played from the right hand side. He is a CF/SS with Barcola in the side.
