Yeah I think Barcola is going be cheaper than it seemed and I think being number one target we may have spent a bit more to do it.

It does seem that PSG wanted a bidding war for Barcola and one that wasnt forthcoming as there have been no other clubs turning up for that.
Hopefully leaves us money to sign someone else. Whether it’s Minteh or the other PSG guy.

That’s the way to go. Because you can bet your top dollar that that player will be a 100m player in a year or two. Cut out the middle man. Minteh is not the finished article anyway.

it is annoying that somebody like Rayan with half a good season would be best part of 80 to 100 mil now. Not rational. Maybe it´s a supply and demand thing.
Lack of quality options so they cost more.
They already bought a left footed right winger this summer. Zadok Yohanna is 19 and cost them £20m odd earlier this summer.

I think the problem is 26-28 is peak for most players and so they cost silly money because of the proven experience.
We used to love that 23-25 range as you had enough data to make a good decision but also you weren’t paying the same kind of fee as you would if they were 26-28. Now it seems clubs are viewing that as the prime window, and quoting fees accordingly, because players in the bracket will generate you a good fee if you sell them during that first contract or into the second one if you get them to sign another.
That means your 20-23 range are commanding the inflation adjusted equivalent of the kind of fees the 23-25 used cost you but come with less certainty and higher risk. And your teenagers with 5 minutes in pre-season now command what a 21 year old getting decent minutes at a mid table or non-elite team on the continent cost.
The data advantage has been eroded by others catching up and the sweet spot for the highest of fees falling into that age bracket we used to find so much value in.
If you want to find some good value now it’s a case of picking them up before they really breakthrough or exploring non-top 5 leagues like Belgium, Sweden, Mexico, South America, Africa and the like or finding players with buyout clauses under or around what you think they’re worth on the open market.
