This one hurts in ways I can’t really quantify right now. Jota for me embodied everything about what it means to be a Liverpool player - resilience, dedication, excellence, and a refusal to give up. One moment that will always stand out to me was the League Cup match against Leicester a few years ago. They were beating us and acting like cunts the whole match, their fans taunting us with vile chants, etc. Jota scored around ‘70 to make it 3-2, then Minamino scored the equalizer in stoppage time. The match went straight to pennos, with Jota scoring the winner to shut them the fuck up and send them home. Cameras would capture him walking past the away supporters and defiantly telling them to fuck off, and I just thought “yep, that’s a Liverpool player if ever there were one.”

He was one of us. An absolutely wonderful player on his day, always popped up with a goal when we needed him, and he’s easily one of our highest value signings in the last 10 years. My thoughts and prayers go out to his poor family who must be absolutely devastated, and the broader footballing world who must now come together to heal.

I think a tribute/testimonial versus Porto would make a great deal of sense.

Was numb when the news broke in… It only started sinking in right now.

That’s me processing some stuff like this. I’m rather fucking thick at these.

I remember his goal against United when he was playing for wolves and thought that there was a Liverpool player in there. Elated when he got in and he was brilliant for us.

Portuguese journalists are reporting that he was travelling to Santander to catch the ferry for England. He couldn’t fly as he had undergone a pulmonary procedure, which I’m guessing ties up with his original rib injury.

If this is accurate, it’s insane. It’s perverse… I just I don’t know how anyone, let alone his family is supposed to process this.
